About the Role

We're looking for an Apprentice Carpenter to join our Grande Prairie team. This is a hands-on, field-based role where you'll work alongside experienced journeymen and foremen on real commercial projects — learning the trade, building your skills, and establishing a career path that can take you all the way to Journeyman and beyond. At Atkinson Construction, we believe in growing from within, and this role is the first step in a long-term career with an emerging and expanding general contractor servicing communities across Western Canada.

What We Offer

  • Competitive rate of pay
  • Comprehensive benefits through Open Circle
  • Bonus pay opportunities
  • A team culture that prioritizes mentorship, safety, and professional growth
  • Career development path toward Journeyman Carpenter and Site Supervisor roles
  • Stable, full-time employment with a growing commercial GC working across Western Canada

Your Responsibilities

As an Apprentice Carpenter at Atkinson Construction, you'll be an active member of the site crew — contributing to daily progress, maintaining a safe and organized worksite, and developing your skills under the guidance of experienced tradespeople. Key responsibilities include:

  • Support daily site operations and contribute to project progress, quality, and deadlines
  • Assist with wood framing, interior and exterior finishing, concrete formwork, and general carpentry tasks under the direction of a Journeyman or Foreman
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times in accordance with ACL and OHS standards
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and orientations; assist with safety documentation as required
  • Monitor site conditions and communicate issues, hazards, or material needs to your supervisor
  • Work collaboratively with the crew, subcontractors, and site leadership to achieve daily and project goals
  • Operate tools and equipment safely; request training if unsure of proper operation
  • Take initiative, ask questions, and embrace every opportunity to learn

Skills & Traits We're Looking For

  • Enrolled in or eligible for a carpentry apprenticeship program (1st–3rd year preferred)
  • Basic understanding of carpentry tools, materials, and construction site practices
  • Willingness to learn wood framing, finishing, formwork, and other commercial carpentry scopes
  • Physically capable of performing the demands of site work in varying weather conditions
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and eagerness to grow within the trade
  • Ability to take direction, work as part of a team, and communicate clearly
  • Valid driver's license (driver's abstract required if operating ACL vehicles)
  • Commitment to safety — you take it seriously, always
