Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and undertake functional, preliminary and detailed design for roadway reconstruction, rehabilitation and improvement projects, including alignments, profiles, cross-sections, intersections, grading, drainage and active transportation facilities.

  • Coordinate technical inputs with internal disciplines, subconsultants, municipalities, utility owners and approving agencies; assist with permit and approval submissions and responses to review comments.
  • Support project managers with task planning, progress tracking, design schedules, deliverable coordination, scope changes and preparation of proposal technical inputs as required.
  • Apply relevant Ontario municipal and provincial standards, including applicable TAC, MTO, OPS and local agency requirements, while identifying technical risks, conflicts and constructability considerations.
  • Participate in site reviews, field investigations and construction-phase technical support, including review of RFIs and shop drawings, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Sound roadway geometric design judgement, with the ability to develop practical design options and resolve interface issues across roadworks, grading, drainage and municipal servicing.
  • Strong technical drafting/modelling literacy and ability to independently produce and check coordinated designs and deliverables.
  • Ability to organize technical work, prioritize competing deadlines, and communicate emerging design risks or required decisions to project leadership.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, collaborative coordination skills, and willingness to mentor developing staff.
  • Commitment to technical quality, professional accountability, integrity and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience in roadway geometry, grading and drainage, with familiarity with stormwater management and municipal watermain/sanitary/storm sewer design.
  • Working proficiency in MicroStation and InRoads/OpenRoads Designer, and AutoCAD/Civil 3D; direct project experience in one or more platforms and ability to coordinate across both Bentley and Autodesk environments.
