Clinician - Mental Health Team

Permanent Part-time (24 hours/week)

McMan Calgary

Internal/External

Meaningful work. Lasting impact.

At McMan Calgary & Area, connection is at the centre of everything we do. Each year, we support more than 5,000 children, youth, adults and families facing complex challenges, including mental health concerns, addiction, homelessness, poverty and disability. We believe every person has deep and lasting worth, and we see people for who they are, not for what they're facing.

Our work supports people to rebuild and strengthen connections to self, peers, family, community, culture and the land. Belonging, identity and wellbeing grow through relationships because people need people. Professional support is there for a season or a reason, not a lifetime. We create the conditions; people build the lives they want for themselves.

The Role

McMan has an exciting opportunity for an experienced CLINICIAN to join our Mental Health team. We are looking for someone who is passionate about mental health, dedicated to their own personal growth, thrives on connecting with others and has fun delivering mental health support in creative ways. You will support staff and caregivers in Therapeutic Foster Care, Foster Care, and both residents and staff in our community group home, Manhattan Place.

The Clinician must possess creativity, critical thinking skills and an ‘out of the box’ approach to problem solving. McMan clinicians work alongside program teams, providing direct counseling for individuals and families through a client-centered, strength-based approach. This role will also be responsible for providing clinical consultation to agency staff, critical incident and crisis debriefing, as well as sharing their expertise through educational presentations for Agency staff and caregivers. The Clinician may also be expected to facilitate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills training groups.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing clinical support through direct and indirect modes of practices including individual therapy, group learning and staff consultation.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation as per program expectations, organizational policy, accreditation and professional standards.
  • Reflect and integrate McMan’s service delivery model which encompasses Trauma Informed Practice, Natural Supports Framework, and a Relational Approach in clinical practice and modality.
  • Facilitate DBT Skills Training groups for youth and adults.
  • As required, participate in wrap-around teams to provide clinical support and perspective.
  • Provide clinical consultation for program staff to support client goal attainment and crisis response.
  • Provide grief and loss debriefing for staff teams and caregivers as required.
  • Connect youth and families to appropriate community resources and services when applicable.
  • Provide counselling support delivery through a culturally sensitive and inclusive lens.
  • Work from a collaborative team-based approach to achieve program and client outcomes as applicable.
  • Respond and report emergency and crisis situations following appropriate procedures, ensuring the safety and security of self and clients.
  • Participate in program evaluation, accreditation and quality assurance processes.
  • Work from a flexible schedule to meet client, program and organizational needs.
  • Ability to assess risk (suicide and self-harm) and support youth and families through the crisis.
  • Manage workload, multiple priorities and administrative responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Provide staff and client training on relevant topics.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and some weekends.

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Reflect and demonstrate the organizations vision, mission and goals in your work.
  • Represent the organization in a professional manner.
  • Complete and maintain all professional standards and trainings related to the position.
  • Understand and act in accordance with the legislation, policies, standards and procedures of the program and organization.
  • Establish and maintain a collaborative working relationship with colleagues across all agency programs, as well as external stakeholders to foster consistency and collaboration of services.
