Job description

Are you a natural problem-solver who enjoys bringing people together, tackling challenges, and finding better ways of doing things? Do you take pride in your work, lead with integrity, and believe that a great community is about more than just a place to live?

Highstreet is seeking a Community Leader to join our Communities team at our Orion development in Comox, BC. In this role, you’ll lead the day-to-day operations of a multi-family residential community, creating an exceptional living experience for our Community Members while building a place that people are proud to call home.

WHY HIGHSTREET?

Highstreet is the largest developer, builder and operator of net-zero-ready homes in Canada and the only one offering double the standard warranty. We also manage our own growing portfolio of 1,400+ rental apartments with customer service scores that consistently rank among the best in the industry.

Our vision is that everyone in Highstreet’s community will want their friends to work with us, live with us and invest with us.

Help us achieve that vision.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As Community Leader, you’ll take ownership of the community’s operations, financial performance, and overall resident experience. You’ll bring Highstreet’s values to life by creating a welcoming, well-maintained, and visibly unique community where people feel connected and proud to call home.

You’ll balance leadership, customer service, financial accountability, and hands-on problem-solving to keep the community running smoothly and create meaningful connections with Community Members.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading leasing activities, including applicant screening and lease administration.
  • Building positive relationships with Community Members and addressing concerns, disputes, and challenging situations with professionalism and fairness.
  • Managing rent collection, tenancy compliance, and the eviction process in accordance with provincial legislation and Highstreet policies.
  • Maintaining accurate leases, financial records, and regular reporting.
  • Managing the community budget, monitoring expenses, and reviewing financial performance to support operational goals.
  • Coordinating maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep to maintain Highstreet’s standards for appearance and property care.
  • Organizing community events, encouraging resident engagement, and creating opportunities for Community Members to connect.
  • Leading community initiatives that support local organizations and causes, including charity drives and partnerships with community groups.
  • Maintaining the community’s Facebook group with timely updates and relevant information.
  • Participating in a shared on-call rotation, including evenings and weekends as required.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

You’re a people-focused leader who takes ownership, follows through on commitments, and understands that strong communities are built through both meaningful relationships and consistent execution. You’re comfortable making decisions, navigating difficult conversations, and balancing competing priorities without losing sight of the bigger picture.

You also identify with Highstreet’s values and demonstrate them through the way you work, communicate, and lead.

You bring:

  • A strong sense of accountability, attention to detail, and a commitment to doing things right.
  • Open, honest, and respectful communication, even in challenging situations.
  • The ability to stay organized, prioritize competing demands, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • A self-directed approach to work, with the initiative to identify problems and take action.
  • Confidence and sound judgment when negotiating, resolving conflicts, and making decisions.
  • A collaborative mindset and a positive, can-do attitude toward a variety of tasks and challenges.
  • A genuine interest in building relationships, engaging Community Members, and creating a sense of belonging.
  • The ability to balance the needs of residents with the financial and operational requirements of the community.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • At least two years of leadership experience.
  • Experience with budgeting, expense management, and financial oversight.
  • Knowledge of British Columbia’s Residential Tenancy Act and related tenancy regulations.
  • A strong background in customer service and administration.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new technology and systems.
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repairs.
  • The physical conditioning and stamina required to perform the role, including working outdoors as needed.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.

Compensation Package:

Annual Salary: $80,000 per year

Annual Bonus: Highstreet pays an annual bonus based on company performance. A typical bonus for this position is approximately 14% of annual salary. Determined annually, the bonus may be higher or lower, depending on performance results.
