Job description

About Offworld:

Offworld Industries Ltd. (Offworld) is the independent studio behind the successful military first-person shooter game, “Squad”. Offworld was formed in 2014 by more than 15 developers who had worked together on the well-known Project Reality mod for Battlefield 2. The founding purpose of the team was to bring a standalone successor of this acclaimed mod to market and build a game development studio and a livelihood from that foundation.

Fast forward to 2026, Offworld has almost 140 employees and is rapidly growing. We have been expanding the studio into serving as a publisher supporting mods and have released our newest title, "Starship Troopers: Extermination", a 16-player PvE first-person shooter based on the 1997 cult-classic film.

We are built on passion, unified spirit and continuing efforts to break the mold. We strive to become a leader in creating large-scale multiplayer games as well as supplying others with the ability to do the same. Offworld Industries is seeking an experienced Community Manager to serve as an advocate, champion, and cheerleader for our engaged player base. This role will act as a key conduit between our wider development team and community, helping to ensure the lines of communication remain open and productive. It will help drive informed product decisions and support to other members of the marketing communications team.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with online audiences in the places where they congregate (Discord, reddit, and other social channels)
  • Regularly report on player sentiment, feedback, and issues to ensure the community’s voice plays a pivotal role in the ongoing evolution of their favorite games
  • Combine data from listening tools and sentiment platforms with your expert understanding of player feedback and sentiment to inform and improve the development of our games
  • Represent the player at meetings and conversations within Offworld, serving as their ambassador while building bridges between the players and the development team
  • Work with official partners and influencers to fuel their creativity, their communities, and their passion for our games
  • Provide moderation oversight and support our volunteer moderators in ways that lead to stronger communities and celebrate the leaders within them
  • Help in the creation, execution, and reporting of our playtesting efforts—both internally and with our community
  • Help in the writing, editing, and collaborative review of release notes, blog posts, and announcements across a variety of teams and stakeholders
  • Comfortable working with colleagues to organize and execute live events, contests, and other in-person opportunities to connect with our most passionate fans
  • Comfortable being on-camera and hosting livestreams and video content celebrating the game and the community

Who You Are:

  • A master at engaging with online audiences in the places in the constant effort to inform, educate, empower, and build trust with those players
  • Comfortable with the art of two-way bridge building: representing (and reinforcing) the vision and goals of a design team while advocating for the passion and expectations of their players
  • Someone unbothered about working with developers from all disciplines and levels of a team in the effort to create a truly community-first organization
  • A self-starter who can own the creation, execution, and reporting on projects and tasks without the need for micro-management
  • A creative storyteller who is excited to come up with new and effective ways to engage with a passionate playerbase
  • A desire to collaborate with others and plug gaps when they see them—strengthening the team as much as their own efforts
  • Adaptable and willing to take on new challenges (while letting go of others) as the approach to community evolves and changes
  • Willing to be flexible, occasionally working outside normal hours or on weekends when absolutely needed

Requirements:

  • Have 2-5 years of professional Community Management experience for a game development studio or established business
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of all community channels, the strengths of each one, and can articulate how they support business needs in different ways (this includes Twitter, Facebook, forums, Twitch, Discord, and Reddit)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Feel comfortable on camera and have experience hosting live streams
  • Periodically able and willing to physically attend conferences
  • Be up to date on the latest gaming and industry trends
  • Have the ability to prioritize several projects at once and hit frequent deliverable deadlines
  • Be very comfortable delivering empathetic and sometimes difficult messaging via written communication
  • Have experience creating and executing community strategies
  • Possess resilience, compassion, initiative, accountability, and the ability to speak up respectfully
  • Be comfortable learning and utilizing project management software like Trello, JIRA, and Confluence

This is a full-time fixed-term position until December 2027 - with the possibility of extension or conversion to a permanent role, with the requirement to work from our office three days per week. The typical salary range for this position is $60,000 - 75,000 CAD per year and is subject to change. The final agreed upon salary is based on work location and may vary depending on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

This role offers:

  • 3 weeks of paid vacation
  • Wonderful colleagues!
