Job description

Overview

Premier Equipment is the largest full-service John Deere dealership in Ontario serving agriculture, lawn care, golf, commercial grounds, and compact construction customers across Ontario. With 20 locations and over 190 skilled technicians, we deliver innovative equipment, expert service, and unmatched support. Since the 1950s, we’ve grown with a clear purpose: To be the best part of our customer’s day by improving their business and lifestyle. Whether it’s solving equipment issues or offering new technology, we’re here to make their day better—and yours too.

It’s an exciting time to join Premier. Come grow with us.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Construction Equipment Technician at Premier Equipment, you’ll be the hands-on expert keeping our compact construction fleet and customer-owned machinery running strong. You’ll inspect, diagnose, and repair John Deere and competitive brands while using the latest tools and diagnostic systems. Whether you're rebuilding hydraulic systems or walking customers through complex repairs, you’ll play a vital role in supporting Ontario’s builders, landscapers, and contractors—and helping them keep projects on track.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, assemble/disassemble, and maintain compact construction equipment from John Deere and competitive brands.

  • Use diagnostic tools and John Deere’s Service Advisor system to perform accurate evaluations and document service work.

  • Order required parts for service jobs and coordinate with the parts department as needed.

  • Follow all company and regulatory safety procedures during service assignments.

  • Maintain current technical knowledge through ongoing training, including John Deere University (JDU) programs.

  • Review and explain service work and maintenance recommendations with the service office and occasionally with customers.

  • Participate in product clinics or other customer-facing service events as required.

  • Operate and test equipment for diagnostic purposes as part of repair workflows.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience performing equipment repairs and maintenance.

  • 421A or 425A License is required.

  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems used in construction and compact equipment.

  • Proficient in using computer systems for diagnostics and work order documentation.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical manuals and repair procedures.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Experience operating construction equipment during diagnostics and post-repair testing.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and provide a clean driver’s abstract.

  • Experience with construction equipment (e.g. skid steers, compact track loaders, mini excavators) is an asset.

Education

  • Completion of a recognized Equipment Technician program or equivalent apprenticeship.

  • Ongoing participation in manufacturer-provided training (e.g. John Deere University) is expected.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry at least 75lbs repeatedly.

  • Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment including bending, climbing, and working in varied weather conditions.

  • Able to operate large machinery for testing and diagnostics.

At Premier Equipment, we are committed to fostering an inclusive, accessible work environment, where all employees feel valued, respected and supported. We offer accommodation for applicants with disabilities as part of its recruitment process. If you are contacted to arrange for an interview, please advise us if you require an accommodation.
