Act as the designated compliance officer for the Canadian entity and serve as its primary AML compliance authority.
Develop the organization's RPAA compliance framework from the ground up, becoming the internal subject matter expert and coordinating implementation across the business.
Manage the direct relationship with FINTRAC, including regulatory communications and Money Services Business (MSB) registration renewals.
Lead Canadian regulatory and independent AML audits, including preparation of documentation, coordination with auditors, and responses to examination findings.
Prepare, submit, and oversee required regulatory reports, including Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs), Unusual Transaction Reports (UARs), Electronic Funds Transfer Reports (EFTOs), Electronic Funds Transfer Initiations (EFTIs), and other reports requested by regulators or banking partners.
Develop and maintain relationships with Canadian banking and payment partners, ensuring compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations, periodic reporting, and collaborative filings.
Maintain the regional AML risk assessment, identify key risk indicators, and monitor the effectiveness of the compliance program.
Report on compliance performance, risks, and program developments to the Board of Directors, the Chief Compliance Officer for North America, and senior leadership.
Provide guidance to compliance team members on Canada-specific regulatory responsibilities.
Collaborate with global compliance teams and other business functions to address regulatory requirements, strengthen controls, and support ongoing compliance initiatives.
Represent the organization in relevant interactions with Canadian regulators and law enforcement authorities.
At least 3 years of experience in a senior or management-level compliance role within a Canadian fintech company or financial institution.
Direct, hands-on experience working with FINTRAC, including regulatory communications, MSB registration, and licensing or registration renewals.
In-depth knowledge of Canadian federal anti-money laundering requirements under the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA).
Practical experience with STR, UAR, EFTO, and EFTI reporting obligations.
Familiarity with the Retail Payment Activities Act (RPAA) and a clear understanding of its practical compliance requirements.
Demonstrated experience leading or managing regulatory and independent AML audits, including documentation preparation and responding to examiner findings.
Proven ability to manage banking and payment partner relationships and meet partner-specific compliance obligations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear policies and procedures.
Confidence communicating with regulators, presenting compliance matters to senior executives, and briefing a Board of Directors.
Strong analytical, organizational, and risk management skills, with the ability to take ownership of regulatory programs and work independently.
CAMS certification or an equivalent recognized AML qualification is an asset.
Experience working within multi-entity and multi-corridor compliance structures is an advantage.
Exposure to cross-border payments or remittance-specific risk typologies is a plus.
Fully remote position within Canada.
Senior-level ownership of the Canadian AML and regulatory compliance framework.
Opportunity to develop and implement an RPAA compliance program from the ground up.
Direct engagement with regulators, banking partners, senior leadership, and the Board of Directors.
Collaboration with an international compliance team operating across multiple markets.
Opportunity to influence the growth and regulatory development of cross-border financial services.
Meaningful work supporting financial access and international money transfers for customers and their families.
High level of responsibility, autonomy, and opportunity to shape compliance practices within a growing business.
You will lead the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the Canadian AML and regulatory compliance framework, ensuring that business operations meet applicable legal requirements and partner obligations.
