The Opportunity: Customer Development Intern – Winter 2027

Hourly Rate: $25.00/hour
Work Model: Hybrid
Locations: Toronto, ON or Montreal, QC
Internship Term: January 4, 2027 – April 30, 2027

Position Summary

Our client is Unilever — one of the world’s most recognized and trusted consumer goods companies, with iconic brands including Dove, Hellmann’s, Vaseline, TRESemmé, Liquid IV, and OLLY.

We’re looking for driven, curious, and analytical students to join the Customer Development team as Fall 2026 Interns.

Customer Development (CD) is Unilever’s sales organization. This team works closely with major retail partners to drive category growth, execute business strategies, and bring shopper-focused solutions to life.

As a Customer Development Intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience supporting real business initiatives while working alongside experienced leaders and cross-functional teams. You’ll have exposure to data analysis, customer strategy, category planning, and business development projects that directly impact the business.

Internship opportunities may sit within:

  • Customer Business Development (CBD) — supporting customer account teams like Walmart, Loblaws, or eCommerce partners
  • Customer Strategy & Planning (CSP) — supporting category strategies, shopper insights, and customer planning initiatives

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build experience in sales, strategy, analytics, or consumer packaged goods.

The Perfect Person for the Role

You’re someone who enjoys solving problems, working with data, and collaborating with others to make things happen.

You’re proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. You’re naturally curious and enjoy turning insights into recommendations and action plans.

You’re also someone who likes being part of a team, takes initiative, and isn’t afraid to ask questions or bring forward new ideas.

Most importantly, you’re excited to learn, grow, and contribute in a meaningful way.

Your Responsibilities

Depending on your team assignment, responsibilities may include:

  • Accessing, managing, and analyzing customer and sales data
  • Supporting the development of customer and category growth strategies
  • Translating insights into actionable business recommendations
  • Assisting with reporting, presentations, and business reviews
  • Supporting retailer and promotional planning initiatives
  • Collaborating with internal teams including Sales, Brand, and Category teams
  • Supporting customer-facing initiatives and Joint Business Planning activities
  • Monitoring business performance metrics and identifying opportunities for growth
  • Helping ensure projects, timelines, and deliverables are executed effectively
  • Presenting internship project findings and recommendations to business leaders at the end of the program

Your Experience

In addition to everything outlined in The Perfect Person for the Role, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Currently enrolled in 3rd or 4th year of a Bachelor’s degree program
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including:
    • VLOOKUP
    • Pivot Tables
    • SUMIF
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Availability to work Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM EST with no academic conflicts
  • Eligibility to work full-time in Canada for the duration of the internship
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment with a minimum of 2 in-office days per week

The RIGHT Candidate

At Encore, we feel that no matter your background, what’s most important to your success — and ours — is the way you interact with others.

Don’t get us wrong, having the right skills and experience matters. But if you’re thinking about joining Encore, it’s important that you know what we’ll expect from you:

  • You believe in winning
  • You bring passion and innovative thinking that delivers results
  • You believe that the words “work” and “fun” belong in the same sentence

You can be described as:

  • Authentic
  • Solutions-oriented
  • Intellectually curious
  • Self-motivated
  • Receptive
  • Assertive
  • Driven
  • Continuously challenging yourself
  • Professional with strong business maturity

The Selection Process

If you haven’t already figured it out, it’s really important for Encore to have the RIGHT Team.

If you know you’re a great match for this role and think you’d be a strong fit with Encore, then you should absolutely apply to this exciting opportunity.

For those of you who apply, thank you for your interest in learning more about this opportunity. While we’d love to connect with everyone, only candidates selected to move forward will be contacted.

The next step in the process will include completing a recorded digital interview that can be done using a webcam or mobile device. This stage allows you to bring your resume to life and gives us the opportunity to get to know you better.

Encore strives to make our recruitment and selection processes as accessible as possible and provides accommodations as required for applicants with disabilities. If you require accommodations at any stage of the process, please let us know.
