Job description

Software Developer, SharePoint Backend

Location: Montreal, Canada / Hybrid

Employment type: Full-time

Company: Montrium inc.

Please note: This is a hybrid Montreal-based role. Candidates must either currently reside within commuting distance of Montreal or be able and willing to relocate prior to their start date.

Montrium is looking for a Software Developer, SharePoint Backend to help evolve the backend foundation of our Connect platform, which supports regulated life sciences teams around the world.

This is a hands-on role for a developer who enjoys backend engineering, SharePoint platform work, integrations, and thoughtful modernization in a product environment where reliability, traceability, and quality matter.

What you’ll do

  • Develop, maintain, and modernize backend components that interact with SharePoint services, configuration, data structures, APIs, SDKs, object models, web services, and integrations.
  • Configure and extend SharePoint structures such as templates, lists, libraries, metadata, content types, views, permissions, workflows, and settings for regulated product capabilities.
  • Develop ASPX-based forms, application logic, and related components that capture, validate, and present data through SharePoint lists, libraries, workflows, metadata, and backend services.
  • Turn product requirements and technical designs into reliable, maintainable, secure, and testable code while improving backend performance, reliability, security, and maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot customer-facing and platform issues involving API behaviour, permissions, configuration, data access, workflow execution, backend services, and integrations.
  • Contribute to code reviews, design discussions, release preparation, packaging, deployment artifacts, release notes, controlled promotion, documentation, knowledge sharing, and clear communication of risks, dependencies, trade-offs, and progress.

What we’re looking for

  • Five or more years of software development experience, including SharePoint applications or Microsoft platform development.
  • Strong experience with C#, .NET, and related application technologies, plus working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and web application patterns.
  • Experience developing with SharePoint APIs, SDKs, object models, web services, or integration interfaces, and configuring SharePoint lists, libraries, content types, metadata, views, templates, permissions, workflows, and regulated content processes.
  • Experience with SharePoint permissions, identity concepts, groups, inheritance, secure access patterns, packaging, deployment, controlled promotion, Git, CI/CD, code review, unit testing, automated functional testing, and controlled software delivery.
  • Understanding of secure development practices and how security principles apply to platform-based applications.
  • A collaborative, curious, and adaptable working style, with strong communication, ownership, time management, comfort working through ambiguity, and the judgement to balance technical details with product, quality, and customer needs. College diploma, university degree, or equivalent practical experience is expected, and written and spoken fluency in English and French is essential; other languages are an asset.

Nice to have

  • Experience with SharePoint Server, SharePoint Subscription Edition, hybrid SharePoint environments, or classic SharePoint customization and deployment models.
  • Experience with legacy SharePoint technologies such as ASPX-based forms, WCF/SOAP services, or XSLT, and maintaining or modernizing established platform-based components.
  • Experience troubleshooting production or customer-facing SharePoint-backed applications, including permissions, configuration, data access, workflow execution, and integration behaviour.
  • Experience with SQL, data modelling, migrations, backend data troubleshooting, data-driven application features, Azure services, PowerShell, monitoring tools, or DevOps practices.
  • Experience in a SaaS, regulated, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or GxP environment; Microsoft Azure or developer certification, or willingness to pursue one.

Why join Montrium?

  • Work on software that supports regulated life sciences research, compliant content processes, and meaningful customer outcomes.
  • Join a collaborative engineering team that values practical design, shared ownership, sustainable delivery, thoughtful modernization, and visible contribution in a smaller-company environment.
  • Use modern productivity and AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Enterprise Copilot and Microsoft 365 AI capabilities, to support coding, documentation, collaboration, and engineering efficiency.
  • Benefit from hybrid work flexibility, regular weekly presence at our office in the Old Port of Montreal, and temporary work-from-abroad flexibility for up to six weeks per year, subject to role expectations and collaboration needs.
  • Access career development support, coaching, ongoing learning, an annual training stipend, healthcare benefits, paid time off starting at three weeks per year, and a workplace committed to respect, continuous growth, and equal opportunity.
