Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Director of Engineering & Technical Services will lead our Engineering, CAD, SolidWorks and Product Development functions, providing the technical direction and leadership required to support continued organizational growth.

This role is ideal for a hands-on engineering leader who can move comfortably between strategic planning and technical problem-solving — someone who can develop people, improve processes, optimize designs, launch new products and make sound decisions when timelines are tight.

This is a fully in-office position based in Wingham, Ontario. Candidates must be willing to relocate to the Wingham area, or be within a reasonable distance to commute.

What You'll Lead

You will provide leadership across:

  • Product launches and new product development

  • Engineering quality, compliance and design standards

You’ll play a key role in ensuring our teams have the people, processes, tools and technical direction required to deliver high-quality solutions on time and within budget.

What You'll Do

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead and develop the Engineering, CAD, SolidWorks and Product Design teams.

  • Establish clear departmental priorities, roadmaps, objectives and performance expectations.

  • Recruit, coach, mentor and develop team members while building a strong succession pipeline.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.

  • Establish and manage departmental budgets and resources.

  • Develop and monitor KPIs that support business, operational and customer objectives.

  • Partner with Executive Leadership to execute strategic initiatives and support organizational growth.

  • Manage workflow and priorities to ensure projects and deliverables remain on schedule.

  • Provide leadership during manufacturing, installation and field challenges, ensuring effective technical resolutions.

Engineering & Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical direction and design guidance to the engineering and technical teams.

  • Review and verify design drawings and technical documentation to ensure they meet required specifications and standards.

  • Ensure structural designs and engineering calculations are accurate, compliant and fit for purpose.

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of Britespan products, manufacturing processes and quality standards.

  • Develop and maintain design standards that consider material tolerances, manufacturing capabilities and supplier specifications.

  • Support the development and implementation of technical strategies, standards and policies.

  • Coordinate technical development activities, schedules, testing and resolution of engineering design challenges.

  • Work with third-party engineers, architects, customers and other technical professionals.

  • Provide technical credibility and leadership when working with internal and external engineering partners.

Product Development & Innovation

  • Lead new product development and product launch initiatives from concept through implementation.

  • Identify opportunities to improve existing products through design optimization, standardization and innovation.

  • Develop solutions that improve product performance, manufacturing efficiency and overall profitability.

  • Evaluate new materials, technologies and design approaches.

  • Partner with Operations, Sales, Costing & Estimating and Quality to ensure products are commercially viable and operationally successful.

  • Balance technical requirements with manufacturing feasibility, cost and customer needs.

Continuous Improvement & Profitability

  • Identify opportunities to streamline engineering and technical processes.

  • Drive design optimization and cost-reduction initiatives.

  • Improve departmental efficiency, workflow and turnaround times.

  • Work closely with Costing & Estimating to optimize designs and material usage.

  • Support initiatives that improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce waste.

  • Develop practical, scalable solutions to complex technical and operational challenges.
