Job description
Overview

Groupe Dynamite Inc. (GDI) is a Montréal-based, public company of integrated omni-channel brands, designing and distributing accessible, trend-forward fashion for women since 1975.

Our mission of "Empowering YOU to be YOU, one outfit at a time" is brought to life through the GARAGE and DYNAMITE banners and represents the consumer-centric core of GDI's long-standing success as a leading retailer in North America.

Today, GDI operates nearly 300 stores across Canada and the United States, as well as shoppable brand experiences at Garageclothing.com and Dynamiteclothing.com.

Job Summary:

We’re looking for a Designer for GARAGE to help create the collections our customer reaches for every day. This role is for a designer who loves the details (fabric, color, print, fit) and wants to grow their skill at turning trends into bestsellers. You’ll design head-to-toe outfits that feel fresh, on-brand, and made for the way she lives.

Reporting to the Senior Designer and Design Director, you’ll work closely with Concept, Merchandising, Sourcing, and our other product teams to bring each collection from first sketch to store and digital launch.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Research emerging fashion trends and contribute ideas for concept and product direction that feel relevant and distinctly GARAGE for our customer;
  • Develop and communicate design concepts through sketching, digital design tools, AI-assisted exploration where appropriate, and other visual methods;
  • Support the Senior Designer and Design Director in building and editing the assortment against the business line plan, helping balance range, newness, and commercial product;
  • Prepare accurate and detailed tech design setups, including tech sketches, BOMs, design packages, and construction notes, for handoff to Technical Design;
  • Attend fittings and contribute to fit, construction, proportion, and detail problem-solving throughout product development;
  • Collaborate with Design, Merchandising, Technical Design, and Sourcing to ensure designs are creative, executable, and aligned with business objectives;
  • Present design ideas clearly in team and cross-functional meetings;
  • Build and maintain strong knowledge of raw materials, working with the Materials team on seasonal fabric sourcing and managing fabric requests and approvals;
  • Provide guidance and support to Assistant Designers when needed.

Qualifications:

  • A post-secondary diploma, DEC, or bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, or related field;
  • 5-7 years of fashion design experience, with strong technical sketching skills;
  • Creative designer with good fashion and commercial sensibility and an understanding of the GARAGE customer and brand aesthetic;
  • Solid experience with fabric, wash, artwork, trims, and surface details, with the ability to apply them to apparel design;
  • Strong trend awareness and curiosity, with a growing ability to judge how and when trends are relevant to the GARAGE customer;
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and other digital design and presentation tools;
  • Experience with AI-assisted design tools, PLM systems, and/or other apparel design platforms is an asset;
  • Familiarity with trend forecasting and research platforms such as WGSN, Tagwalk, and similar resources;
  • Good communication, collaboration, and presentation skills;
  • Working knowledge of the apparel product development process, from concept and sketch through fittings and final product;
  • Ability to balance creativity with commercial needs, and eagerness to learn and take on more ownership over time.

At GDI, you will be part of a growing organization that understands the importance of investing in people and offers you:

  • A comprehensive compensation package that includes performance-driven bonuses;
  • A group retirement savings program with employer matching;
  • Flexible group insurance with personalized coverage that meets your needs;
  • An employee discount at Garage and Dynamite;
  • Exclusive private sample sales;
  • A flexible vacation policy;
  • And more!

GDI has been repeatedly voted one of Montréal’s Top Employers and one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People.

Our promise…
No day will be like the last—we aim to be better today than we were yesterday. We are committed to employment equity.

Candidates that are retained will be called for an interview.
