About SweetTech
SweetTech builds loan origination, servicing and capital markets software for commercial lenders across North America.
We are a small team based in Montreal, with colleagues across North America. You will work alongside experienced developers and see how a software team turns product requirements into working features.
The role
As a Forward Deployed Engineer Intern, you will help turn customer workflows into working applications on SweetOS, with projects scoped to your experience and guidance from experienced engineers. You will learn to clarify needs, understand our application architecture, and validate useful solutions for commercial lending teams.
How we build applications
You will use SweetTech’s autonomous agentic development systems. These systems perform implementation; your primary work is to define intended behavior, direct agents, compose reusable building blocks, and check results rather than code applications directly. Technical foundations help you understand data flows, APIs, permissions, and agent-generated changes.
SweetOS makes it possible to assemble applications repeatedly from shared capabilities. A capability developed for one app can be reused in others. You will learn to identify existing building blocks and document opportunities for reuse.
What you will do
Help experienced FDEs translate customer requirements into scoped tasks and clear acceptance checks.
Configure and compose application workflows through our autonomous development systems, with review from the engineering team.
Assist with integrations, data mapping, and validation; investigate issues and verify fixes in realistic workflows.
Participate in supervised customer conversations and demonstrations, taking clear notes and asking useful questions.
Review agent outputs, run tests, check permissions and edge cases, and document evidence that the result meets the requirement.
Document reusable capabilities, communicate progress and blockers, and incorporate feedback.
Experienced engineers retain responsibility for architectural decisions, customer commitments, and production approvals. You will receive guidance and escalate uncertainty.
On-the-job training
Our training program covers SweetTech’s processes, Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Agentic Development Life Cycle, agentic technology stack, and SweetOS operations. Guided work on real tasks will teach you to navigate the architecture, direct agents, reuse building blocks, validate changes, and troubleshoot applications. Prior knowledge of our internal systems is not required; responsibilities grow with demonstrated readiness.
What we are looking for
You are enrolled in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a related program.
You have built software through coursework, personal projects, an internship, or open-source contributions. You can explain how it works.
You have a foundation in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or another programming language, and are willing to learn our stack.
You understand basic programming concepts and can work through a problem step by step.
You are familiar with Git and interested in learning how web interfaces, APIs, and databases work together.
You ask useful questions, take feedback well, and follow through on your work.
You can communicate clearly in English with the team.
You are available full-time during the semester you apply for.
Nice to have
Experience with Angular, React, FastAPI, or SQL.
Tests you have written for a project, or experience debugging an application beyond coursework examples.
Experience with Claude Code, Codex, or other AI coding tools.
An interest in fintech, commercial lending, and agricultural lending.
Our stack
Our lending platform uses Python and FastAPI, Angular and TypeScript, CockroachDB, and Redis. Another product uses React and Next.js with TypeScript services. Your project will determine which tools you work with. Familiarity with all of them is not an entry requirement.
