Job description

What We Offer

At Convverge, we build business-level solutions using Microsoft technology to solve complex problems for our clients.

We’re a close-knit, high-trust team that values technical quality, ownership, and practical problem solving. Our people are trusted to make good decisions, take accountability for outcomes, and work collaboratively across disciplines.

We’re looking to add senior technical depth to our team through a fractional role that combines hands-on engineering, solution design, technical leadership, and knowledge transfer.

About the Role

Convverge is looking for an experienced Fractional Senior Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer to provide senior-level technical expertise across our client environments.

This is a hands-on fractional role designed to complement our existing technical team by providing deeper expertise across Microsoft cloud, infrastructure, networking, security, and complex technical troubleshooting.

You’ll step in where senior technical depth is required, whether that means resolving a difficult Tier 3 escalation, designing an Azure Virtual Desktop environment, reviewing a client’s security posture, supporting a migration, or helping determine the right technical approach to a complex infrastructure problem.

This is not a traditional help desk position. Your focus will be on the problems and projects where experience, judgment, and technical depth matter most.

Just as importantly, we want this role to strengthen the capability of the team around you. A key part of the mandate is to solve, document, teach, and standardize so that knowledge is shared rather than concentrated.

What You’ll Do

  • Senior Technical Escalation
    • Serve as a senior escalation resource for complex Tier 3 issues across Microsoft 365, Azure, identity, endpoints, networking, servers, and infrastructure.
    • Diagnose complex, multi-layered technical problems and lead root-cause analysis.
    • Take ownership of issues that require deeper technical investigation or experience.
    • Identify and implement permanent solutions rather than relying on temporary workarounds.
    • Collaborate with internal technical resources and third-party vendors while maintaining ownership of technical outcomes.
  • Microsoft 365, Identity & Endpoint Management
    • Architect, deploy, administer, and troubleshoot Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Defender, and Microsoft 365 environments.
    • Design and implement Conditional Access, MFA, compliance policies, configuration standards, and security baselines.
    • Support Microsoft 365 tenant migrations, licensing initiatives, security assessments, and environment improvements.
    • Troubleshoot complex endpoint and device-management issues across Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.
    • Review Microsoft security posture and recommend practical improvements using Secure Score and applicable Microsoft security practices.
  • Azure & Azure Virtual Desktop
    • Design, deploy, administer, and troubleshoot Azure Virtual Desktop environments.
    • Provide senior technical guidance on AVD architecture, security, capacity, performance, and reliability.
    • Support Azure infrastructure including virtual machines, networking, storage, and identity integration.
    • Troubleshoot complex Azure infrastructure and connectivity issues.
    • Support migration and modernization initiatives involving on-premises and Azure-hosted workloads.
  • Infrastructure & Networking
    • Provide senior-level expertise across Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file services, Hyper-V, VMware, backup, and disaster recovery technologies.
    • Design, deploy, and troubleshoot network infrastructure including firewalls, VLANs, VPNs, site-to-site connectivity, wireless networks, routing, and switching.
    • Perform advanced network troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
    • Support infrastructure security hardening and network segmentation initiatives.
    • Help ensure environments are reliable, secure, performant, and supportable.
  • Solution Design & Project Delivery
    • Participate in technical discovery, solution design, and client technical reviews.
    • Translate client requirements into practical technical solutions.
    • Review proposed solutions and identify risks, dependencies, security considerations, and operational impacts before implementation.
    • Lead or support infrastructure and cloud projects from design through implementation and handoff.
    • Provide senior engineering support during migrations and complex technical implementations.
    • Establish repeatable technical standards and approaches that can be applied across client environments.
  • Security
    • Incorporate security into infrastructure, identity, endpoint, networking, and cloud decisions.
    • Identify insecure configurations, vulnerabilities, and unnecessary technical risks.
    • Recommend and implement practical remediation strategies.
    • Help establish and improve security standards across client environments.
    • Support investigation and remediation of security-related technical issues.
  • Automation & Documentation
    • Use PowerShell and other automation approaches to improve efficiency, consistency, and reliability.
    • Develop scripts and repeatable processes for administration, remediation, deployment, and reporting.
    • Produce clear technical documentation, standards, runbooks, diagrams, and implementation procedures.
    • Identify opportunities to standardize solutions across environments.
  • Knowledge Transfer & Team Development
    • Work alongside Convverge technical resources rather than simply taking difficult work away from them.
    • Coach team members through complex technical problems and explain the reasoning behind technical decisions.
    • Share troubleshooting approaches and technical knowledge with the broader team.
    • Create reusable documentation and standards that reduce reliance on individual technical experts.
    • Identify recurring technical or capability gaps and help the team develop the skills to address them independently.

What We’re Looking For

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in infrastructure engineering, systems engineering, cloud engineering, or senior technical consulting.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Azure, and Windows-based infrastructure.
  • Strong experience with:
    • Azure Virtual Desktop
    • Windows Server
    • Active Directory and Group Policy
    • Conditional Access and modern identity security
    • Enterprise networking and firewalls
    • Hyper-V and/or VMware
    • Backup and disaster recovery
  • Strong PowerShell scripting and automation capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex issues spanning multiple technologies.
  • Experience designing and implementing cloud and infrastructure solutions.
  • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives from design through production implementation.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, and clients.
  • Comfortable operating in a consulting or multi-client environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a Microsoft-focused consulting or managed services environment.
  • Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant migration experience.
  • Experience modernizing or migrating traditional infrastructure into Azure.
  • Experience developing technical standards or reference architectures.
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications in Azure, Microsoft 365, identity, security, or endpoint management.
  • Experience mentoring intermediate and senior technical resources.

Fractional Working Model

  • This is a fractional engagement rather than a traditional full-time position.
  • We envision approximately 5-10 hours per week, balancing planned project and architecture work with agreed availability for complex technical escalations.
  • The role is intended to provide continuity with the Convverge team and our clients while offering flexibility for the successful candidate to maintain other professional commitments.
  • The exact schedule can be structured around business needs, project requirements, and mutually agreed availability.

What Success Looks Like

This role isn’t measured by ticket volume. Success means bringing the right technical expertise to the problems that matter most.

You’ll be successful when:

  • Complex technical issues are resolved with strong root-cause analysis and lasting solutions.
  • Risk is identified early in projects and technical decisions.
  • Client environments become more secure, reliable, and supportable.
  • Projects have appropriate senior technical oversight.
  • Technical standards and documentation continue to improve.
  • Convverge team members build their own technical depth through working alongside you.
  • Repeat problems increasingly stay with the core team, while genuinely complex issues benefit from senior expertise.

What we Value

Our company leads with a values-based mindset, and we believe the best career matches happen when personal values align with ours. Our six core values are: Create Successful Customers, Operate with Integrity, Support Each Other, Have Fun! Enjoy the Technology, Develop Our People, and Be an Owner. Before you apply, consider how these values align with the way you work and learn.

Application Process

If this sounds like the right fit, we'd love to hear from you. Submit your resume and a cover letter telling us about your experience and why Convverge is the right next step.
