Who is Bare
Bare is Australia's most highly rated end-of-life business, and we're now bringing what we do to Canada, starting in Ontario.
We provide accessible, affordable end-of-life care that changes the way people deal with death. The funeral industry has long offered expensive, traditional, cookie-cutter services that don't always meet the needs of modern families. We think there's a better way.
By combining empathy with technology, we create end-of-life experiences that are simple, personal and affordable. In only five years we've supported more than 50,000 families in Australia, become Australia's most awarded end-of-life provider (with awards in customer service, innovation and digital disruption), and built a team of more than 200 people.
Canada is our next chapter, and you'd be one of the first people helping families here. It's a rare chance to shape how a company works from day one.
So what is the role, exactly?
We're looking for a licensed Funeral Director who is an empathetic communicator with exceptional attention to detail. You'll be a family's guide and support through their most vulnerable time. It's no stretch to say it's one of the most important roles in the company.
This is a remote, phone-based role focused on direct cremation. You'll work directly with families across Ontario, showing them you care and then arranging and communicating every step of the process. From time to time you'll also step out from behind the phone: leading a small service yourself, or personally returning a loved one's ashes to their family.
What would my day to day look like?
You'll be working with families at the most difficult time in their lives. They're looking for guidance, empathy and support in arranging a cremation for someone they love. Each day you'll be:
answering inbound calls from families with questions about their arrangements
guiding families through direct cremation, from first call through to the return of ashes
completing and checking the documentation each arrangement requires, accurately and on time
proactively updating families on where their arrangements are up to
actively listening, giving families the time and space to share their grief with someone they trust
coordinating logistics with our care partners, crematoriums and other providers
And occasionally:
conducting a simple service or gathering for a family who'd like one
hand-delivering cremated remains to families
You'll work with a small, growing team in Canada, backed by the experience and systems of our Australian team.
Who are we looking for?
This is a hard but deeply impactful role. Families come to us in all kinds of circumstances, and we become their trusted advisor through a difficult part of their lives. You'll need:
a current Funeral Director licence (Class 1 or Class 2) with the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, in good standing
to be based in Ontario, outside the Greater Toronto Area
a valid driver's licence and the ability to travel occasionally for services and ashes returns
a genuine love of supporting people from all walks of life with empathy
comfort giving thoughtful, non-judgmental guidance to people who need it
the ability to take the lead in a conversation and become a trusted advisor
the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
comfort with technology, following processes, and working independently from home
Experience with direct cremation or transfer services is a bonus.
Most importantly, we want someone who believes in our mission. Everyone at Bare is driven by the impact of what we do, and we want that to continue with every person who joins us.
What's in it for me?
Someone in our end-of-life team recently described their role this way: "This is the most impactful work I've ever done. I feel lucky to be able to help people that truly need support." So, there's that. We've also been named one of the 2026 Top 10 Inspiring Workplaces across Australasia, proof that our people-first culture is more than just talk.
In addition, we offer:
a salary of CAD $80,000 to $90,000
fully remote work from anywhere in Ontario outside the GTA, with plenty of autonomy and trust
a ground-floor role in Bare's Canadian launch, with real room to grow as the team does
a friendly, supportive team of people who genuinely love what they do
the chance to make an impact at one of the most critical moments in someone's life
The main reason you'll join, though, is because you believe in what we do and are excited to transform an industry.
