Why Sony Interactive Entertainment?

Sony Interactive Entertainment isn’t just the Best Place to Play — it’s also the Best Place to Work. Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is the company behind the PlayStation brand. As a subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation, we’re part of a proud legacy of innovation and excellence. SIE is a dynamic technology company, delivering cutting-edge hardware and network services to more than 100 million people and an entertainment leader, home to some of the most beloved and recognizable intellectual properties (IP) in the world. Our role at SIE is to create and nurture the experiences under the PlayStation brand, a name synonymous with entertainment excellence and creativity.

PlayStation Studios is the game development division of Sony PlayStation, and is responsible for developing some of the most recognisable and ambitious console games and franchises on PlayStation, including The Last of Us, Horizon, Spider-Man, God of War, Helldivers and Gran Turismo.

We work with some of the best game studios in the world, and use data to help them make their games even better. We provide end-to-end analytics services for PlayStation Studios and use data to help them in the game development lifecycle. We are looking for talented people to join us in pushing the boundaries of game analytics for PlayStation games.

As a Lead Analytics Developer, you’ll work in our cross-disciplinary engineering team to scale our platform, expand its reach, and help define and build the future of analytics for PlayStation games. You should have a passion for video games and a background in data or analytics engineering. You’re looking for a fun, dynamic environment to take on new challenges.

In your first six months, you will work on new title launches, and build data models to ensure efficient and consistent queries. To build these data models, you’ll work directly with game studios and data analysts to design and validate suitable in-game telemetry. You’ll also help expand our use of technologies, such as dbt and airflow, in ways that are suitable to our use cases. You will be given ownership of data models for specific games and work closely with Game Analytics team members and game studio colleagues to ensure we’re building with consistency and performance in mind.

We’d love to hear from you if:

  • You are adept at writing SQL on analytics (OLAP) databases (preferably Redshift, or similar databases)
  • You have experience implementing and using data modelling tools such as dbt or SQLMesh
  • You have experience in transforming business needs into data model requirements & solutions
  • You’re excited by Big Data projects and technology, and want to gain more experience in this area
  • You’re committed to quality as a top priority, and have an interest in repeatable, testable, destructible, test-driven database development
  • Bonus points for:
    • a degree in Computer Science
    • experience with Python, AWS Glue, source control (Git, Liquibase), Airflow
    • familiarity with AAA game development and modern console games

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

In addition, this role is eligible for SIE’s top-tier benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, matching 401(k), paid time off, wellness program and coveted employee discounts for Sony products. This role also may be eligible for a bonus package. Click here to learn more.

This is a flexible role that can be remote, with varying pay ranges based on geographic location. For example, if you are based out of Seattle, the estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$141,900—$212,900 CAD

Please note, Sony Interactive Entertainment conducts background checks at the offer stage for all new employees (which may include criminal background checks for some roles) and will need to process personal information to support these checks.
