Job description

Yonge Street Mission (YSM) is a vibrant, non-profit Christian organization leading a collective movement to end chronic poverty in Toronto.

Since 1896, we’ve worked to transform the lives of people living with poverty, going beyond immediate needs by offering wrap-around support via holistic programs and services, and a pathway which enables street-involved youth, families in need, adults experiencing poverty and vulnerable communities to move from surviving to thriving.

To make this happen, we are passionate about investing in the people we work with, and look for a diverse range of staff who are key for us to advance our mission: Christians who have a heart for neighbours in need, a desire to transform the lives of our community members, and who believe in treating everyone with dignity and respect.

If you are inspired by our vision and feel a true call to contribute to YSM’s work, we’d love to hear from you.

What We Offer:

As a staff member at YSM, some of the things you can look forward to include a values-based and highly collaborative and engaging work environment with a high value on staff’s mental health and well-being; meaningful, innovative and impactful work, with opportunities to make a difference in the lives of children, families, and the community.

The Opportunity:

Each December, YSM hosts an exciting Christmas Toy Market that serves over 2,000 community members. Families are able to select new toys for their children in an atmosphere that is dignified, joyful, and welcoming.

We are seeking a Logistics & Operations Assistant (Toy Market) to support the planning and successful delivery of this cherished annual event. Working alongside staff, volunteers, donors, and YSM departments, the Logistics & Operations Assistant will help coordinate toy donations, pickups and deliveries, inventory movement, event setup, and day-to-day logistics to ensure the Toy Market runs smoothly.

Contract Duration: This is a 6-week, part-time contract position (25–37.5 hours per week), from November 16 to December 24, 2026.

Work Locations: Martin Centre and Davis Centre

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating toy donation pickups and drop-offs by confirming arrangements with donors and communicating details to relevant YSM teams.
  • Supporting the safe loading, transportation, unloading, storage, and movement of toys and event materials between YSM locations.
  • Maintaining accurate donation, pickup, delivery, and inventory records, including updating shared spreadsheets and tracking outstanding tasks.
  • Assisting with Toy Market setup and teardown, including arranging tables, signage, displays, storage areas, bins, and supplies.
  • Working with YSM’s Property Services, Philanthropy, program staff, Reception, Volunteer Resources, and other stakeholders to coordinate logistical needs and communicate updates.
  • Supporting day-to-day event operations, responding to changing needs, and helping maintain a safe, organized, accessible, and welcoming environment.
  • Assisting with staff and volunteer scheduling, orientation, and coordination of assigned logistical tasks.
  • Maintaining schedules, checklists, and other project documentation, and contributing information for post-event reporting.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in event coordination, logistics, community programming, or a related field; experience with volunteers and diverse communities is an asset.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail).
  • Hands-on experience with inventory, transportation, deliveries, or event setup is an asset; ability to lift and move boxes weighing approximately 25-30 lbs. and assist with setup and teardown is required.
  • Flexible, reliable, and solutions-focused, with a commitment to YSM’s mission, faith-based values, and Christian identity.

Compensation: YSM offers competitive compensation at a rate of $23.15 per hour for this contract position.

Deadline for Application: Until filled.

While we appreciate all responses, only candidates under consideration will be contacted.

YSM welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.

Please note that this position is for an existing vacancy, and YSM does not use any form of artificial intelligence (AI) at any stage of the recruitment process. These stages include candidate screening and shortlisting, assessment and selection.
