Job description

The Logic is hiring a technology reporter, with a particular focus on Canadian startups, venture capital and artificial intelligence.

About The Logic

The Logic is a leading source of business and technology news in Canada, offering subscribers in-depth reporting on the businesses, people and policies that move the country forward.

Founded in 2018, we are backed by the Financial Times, with headquarters in Toronto and bureaus in Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa and Montreal. The Logic’s award-winning original journalism reaches hundreds of thousands of Canadians through our website and app, a suite of newsletters and a slate of in-person and virtual events including The Logic Summit. Our work is syndicated to a global audience of financial professionals. Our subscribers are at the centre of everything we do—and we believe Canadian journalism has a bright future.

About the role:

Your work will centre on the technology industry, with a particular focus on Canadian startups and venture capital. You’ll cover the companies, founders, investors and policy shifts shaping the innovation economy. You will also be expected to contribute to The Logic’s coverage of how artificial intelligence is impacting business and society.

As a key member of The Logic’s technology desk, you’ll break stories on executive shakeups at Canadian tech firms, new funding rounds, the movements of foreign tech giants in Canada and more. Your stories will help our readers make sense of how the world is changing, what that change means, and why it matters.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-impact stories, ranging from breaking news and sharp analysis to longer-lead investigations and features. You’ll have a packed roster of sources and be expected to deliver a regular drumbeat of exclusives based on your industry knowledge and contacts. You will also be expected to deliver exclusives by filing access to information requests and by delving into publicly available documents.

You will pitch, report and write stories on tight deadlines, and chase breaking news as assigned by The Logic's editors. While this is primarily a news reporting job, you will also pitch longer-term assignments, and partner with colleagues on team projects.

This is a full-time staff job with a salary range of $69,764 to $108,838. This position is ideally based in Toronto, where The Logic offers a hybrid work arrangement, but we welcome applications from candidates in other major Canadian cities.

What you'll do:

  • Consistently break major news on the technology beat
  • Report and write a range of stories, mixing shorter news pieces with investigative work and, on occasion, feature reporting
  • Pitch, report and write stories about the technology industry, Canadian startups, venture capital and artificial intelligence
  • Pitch, report and write analysis and feature stories and contribute to other editorial products including The Logic Briefing newsletter
  • Work on additional projects and stories as assigned

Who you are:

The ideal candidate will have business or technology journalism experience, but we welcome applications from journalists who have done first-rate work covering other subjects. We’re looking for:

  • At least three years of experience as a technology or business journalist with a track record of breaking news.
  • An enterprising self-starter who is both adept at developing sources to help them break news and comfortable finding stories in public filings, data sets and access-to-information requests
  • You’re committed to accuracy, excellence and the rigorous pursuit of facts
  • You’re a strong writer who puts in the work to turn complex topics into clear, engaging and accurate stories that help readers understand how technology is changing the way everyone works and lives.
  • You’ll be comfortable reporting and writing in a range of styles while promoting diversity of thought and representation in storytelling. You’ll also take as much pride in contributing to our daily newsletter as you do in writing news stories and features
  • You’re a team player with an adaptive and entrepreneurial mindset who wants to grow with a company that is building the future of Canadian journalism
  • You’re committed to building a collegial, collaborative newsroom that treats all its members with respect

Benefits of working at The Logic:

  • Competitive compensation package with generous paid time off and equity options
  • Comprehensive benefits plan including parental leave top-up, fertility coverage, dental, vision, HSA, EAP and more
  • Professional development opportunities

Work arrangements at The Logic:

The Logic is pleased to provide work arrangements through which employees can produce their best work. We are a distributed team and work remotely across Canada. For team members in Toronto and Ottawa, The Logic offers office space for in-person work, meetings, etc.

To apply, please submit the following:

  • A cover letter explaining why you want to cover the technology beat for The Logic and how you would approach the job
  • Your resume
  • As many as five examples of your published news stories, investigations, long or short features or other lively writing
  • This hiring process may include a skills test, for which we will compensate you

Not sure you're qualified? Please apply anyway. We look for talent, not lines on a resume, and we are committed to building an inclusive environment.

Applications are due by 09h00 ET on Monday, Nov. 9, 2026.

If you have questions, please contact [email protected].

The Logic is committed to inclusiveness, equity and accessibility. If you require accommodations at any step of the application or interview process, please contact [email protected]. Accommodations may include but are not limited to: alternative methods of communication, providing a detailed “what to expect,” or modified interview process. Please note this list is not exhaustive and we are more than happy to discuss other accommodations as required.
