Job description

Senior Architectural Technical Lead
Vancouver, BC
Architecture & Design Firm
Salary: $95,000 to $110,000+
Exceptional Design. Technical Expertise. Leadership Opportunity.

About the Firm

Our client is an award-winning Vancouver architecture and design studio recognized for its contemporary architecture, thoughtful use of materials and exceptional attention to detail.

With a diverse portfolio spanning custom residential, multifamily, mixed-use, institutional and community projects, the firm has built a strong reputation for design excellence across a variety of scales.

The studio is highly collaborative and design-driven, with an appreciation for craftsmanship, technical precision and innovative building solutions.

As the practice continues to grow, they are looking for an experienced Technical Architect or Senior Architectural Technologist to strengthen project delivery and help advance the technical capabilities of the studio.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced architectural professional who enjoys the technical side of architecture and takes pride in translating exceptional design into well-resolved, constructible buildings.

The position is primarily focused on Design Development (DD) through Issued for Construction (IFC), requiring advanced expertise in construction documentation, architectural detailing, building assemblies and code compliance.

You will work closely with design teams to resolve complex technical challenges, coordinate consultants and ensure design intent is maintained throughout project delivery.

The ideal candidate will have developed their experience within highly design-focused architectural practices, bringing an understanding of both intricate, smaller-scale projects and larger, technically complex buildings, particularly institutional work.

Beyond project delivery, you will provide technical leadership and mentorship across the studio. For the right individual, there is an opportunity to help establish and lead a dedicated technical department, developing standards, QA/QC processes and technical resources.

This role is ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys technical documentation and detailing, with the experience and leadership skills to influence how projects are delivered.

The Role

  • Lead technical development of architectural projects from DD through IFC.

  • Prepare, oversee and review detailed construction documentation and drawing packages.

  • Develop complex architectural details, building assemblies, envelope systems and material interfaces.

  • Ensure compliance with the BC Building Code, Vancouver Building By-law and applicable regulations.

  • Translate architectural concepts into technically resolved, constructible solutions.

  • Lead Revit documentation and coordinate multidisciplinary consultants.

  • Review drawings for technical accuracy, coordination, constructability and quality.

  • Provide technical guidance throughout permitting, tender and construction.

  • Mentor Architects, Intern Architects and Architectural Technologists.

  • Work with leadership to improve technical standards, detailing resources and QA/QC processes.

  • Contribute to the development of a dedicated technical department.

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience as a Technical Architect, Senior Architectural Technologist or similar technical professional.

  • Strong background within highly regarded, design-focused architectural practices.

  • Extensive experience delivering projects from DD through IFC.

  • Exceptional construction documentation, architectural detailing and technical coordination skills.

  • Advanced knowledge of building codes, building science, envelope systems and construction assemblies.

  • Strong portfolio of smaller-scale, highly detailed architectural projects, along with experience on larger, complex buildings.

  • Institutional project experience strongly preferred.

  • Advanced Revit proficiency, including leading and reviewing construction documentation.

  • Strong understanding of the BC Building Code and Vancouver Building By-law.

  • Experience coordinating consultants and resolving complex technical challenges.

  • Demonstrated leadership and mentorship skills, with an interest in developing technical standards and processes.

  • Detail-oriented, proactive and genuinely passionate about the technical execution of great architecture.

What's Offered

  • Competitive salary, depending on experience.

  • Comprehensive benefits package and hybrid work environment.

  • An award-winning, design-focused architectural studio.

  • Diverse projects ranging from highly detailed residential to complex institutional buildings.

  • A collaborative team that values design excellence and technical expertise.

  • Direct collaboration with senior leadership and influence over project delivery.

  • The opportunity to develop technical standards, improve processes and mentor the team.

  • Potential to establish and lead a dedicated technical department.

  • Long-term career growth within a respected architectural practice.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically accomplished Architect or Architectural Technologist who has worked within strong design environments and enjoys the challenge of bringing sophisticated architectural concepts through detailed documentation and construction.

If you have exceptional detailing skills, strong building code knowledge and the leadership abilities to help shape the technical direction of a growing studio, we would love to hear from you.
