We aren't just adding AI features to our products—we are pioneering an AI-First software engineering culture. From advanced, award-winning video analytics like Appearance Search and Visual Alerts, we architect our systems from the ground up to maximize the power of Artificial Intelligence. We are transforming the surveillance landscape, and our team is leading the charge by integrating intelligent, data-driven capabilities into the very fabric of our software ecosystem.

Job Description

We are seeking a Software Developer in Test II (Backend) who shares an AI-First mindset to champion quality and reliability across our core backend systems. In this role, you will design and build scalable automated test frameworks focused on backend APIs (REST and SOAP) and integrate them seamlessly into modern CI/CD pipelines. You will work closely with development teams—actively reviewing C# and C++ backend code and unit/integration tests—and partner directly with engineering leadership to ensure services are built with testability, observability, and high performance in mind. This position is based in Vancouver, BC, and the candidate must reside in the Greater Vancouver area for our hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Backend Framework Design & API Testing: Design, build, and maintain scalable test frameworks tailored for backend services and APIs (REST and SOAP) using C# and C++. Implement mocks, stubs, and simulators to decouple service dependencies and ensure reliable test execution.
  • Code Review & Engineering Quality: Actively participate in peer code reviews for both test code and backend C# and C++ production code/tests developed by the engineering team. Ensure adherence to high standards for design patterns, maintainability, performance, and test coverage.
  • Shift-Left Quality & Testability: Partner directly with software engineers and system architects during design phases. Review backend system designs to define clear acceptance criteria, test contracts, and build observability into backend services from day one.
  • CI/CD Integration: Integrate automated backend test suites into modern CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) as automated quality gates.
  • AI-Enhanced Quality Engineering: Leverage AI coding assistants and intelligent tooling to accelerate API test generation, simulate backend edge cases, generate synthetic test payloads, and assist in predictive failure analysis.
  • Collaborative Partnership & Quality Culture: Champion backend testing best practices across Agile teams. Lead and participate in root cause analyses (RCAs), bug hunts, and technical strategy reviews to drive continuous improvement in engineering quality.
  • Observability & Debugging: Utilize backend observability telemetry (metrics, structured logs, distributed tracing) to isolate performance bottlenecks and debug complex system issues across service boundaries.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience as an SDET or Backend Automation Engineer
  • Strong programming proficiency in C# and/or C++, with comfortable hands-on experience reviewing C# and C++ code and test implementations written by developers.
  • Solid experience testing backend APIs (RESTful web services, SOAP, RPC, or microservices).
  • Hands-on experience building automated testing frameworks from the ground up in object-oriented environments.
  • Strong command of API testing (e.g., Postman, SoapUI, REST Assured, NUnit/xUnit,Catch2/GTest).
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, build orchestration, and containerized testing environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Practical experience applying AI-assisted workflows to test design and development.● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with observability platforms (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana) to trace and diagnose backend service failures.
  • Experience with test management tools (e.g., TestRail) and integrating test results into TCMS.
  • Background working with media processing, video management systems, or real-time networking protocols.

Target Base Salary Range: $90,000 - 110,000 CAD
