Job description

About Button

Since 2018, Button has been building reliable technology for government and private-sector clients with the goal of creating a more sustainable future through digital transformation. We create secure, easy-to-use systems through deliberate consideration and iteration. We are passionate about creating stronger communities through technology and continuing to grow across Canada and beyond.

Button Inc. was born out of a desire to take complex tasks and ideas and deliver them in a genuine, innovative, and impactful way. We help clients tackle hard problems and delight them with user-focused design and exceptional technical delivery. We start every engagement by making sure we’re solving the right problem with the most appropriate technical solution to meet our client’s needs.

About The Opportunity

Button is looking to support a government client undertaking a long-term digital modernization program to replace disconnected legacy regulatory systems and reduce technical debt. Rather than rebuilding existing applications one-for-one, the organization is creating secure, interconnected and sustainable solutions within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, supported by a common data framework. The project will deliver scalable solutions that improve business processes, data access and reporting while creating reusable components, supporting production releases, and providing the documentation and knowledge transfer needed for long-term internal support.

We're looking for a Sr Microsoft developer with a minimum of 10 years experience in the ecosystem. You will lead the full solution lifecycle using an outcome-first approach. This includes defining the business problem and user needs; assessing data ownership, integrity, migration and integration requirements; mapping those needs to Microsoft 365 capabilities; and comparing potential solutions based on simplicity, sustainability, cost and governance.

You will recommend an appropriate technology pattern with clear rationale and risk considerations, then design, test and implement the agreed solution using reusable and scalable components wherever possible. You will also prepare detailed documentation and provide hands-on knowledge transfer to support the solution’s long-term success.

You work with business and technical teams to understand and recommend the most appropriate combination of Microsoft technologies to automate business processes, improve data access and reporting, and support the modernization of the organization’s regulatory capabilities. Technologies include Teams, SharePoint, Planner, Power Platform, Dataverse, Power BI, Viva and Copilot.

Required Experience
Please note that while Button values lifelong learning, transferable skills and candidates from diverse professional backgrounds, the experience outlined below is mandatory in order to be considered by the client.

  • A minimum of 10 years within the last 15 years experience working in the Microsoft Ecoystem.
  • Full Solution Lifecycle project experience using an outcome-first approach as outlined above
  • Certification of either
    • PL‑400: Microsoft Power Platform Developer Associate; OR
    • PL‑600: Microsoft Power Platform Solution Architect Expert

5 years within the last 10 years in each of the following areas:

  • Developing Microsoft Planner functionality using the Planner API to programmatically create, manage, track or integrate plans and tasks with other business applications and workflows
  • Developing Microsoft SharePoint solutions using the Microsoft Graph API, including Drive, List and Site functionality
  • Managing Microsoft Teams using the Microsoft Graph API
  • Developing Power Automate cloud flows using standard and custom Microsoft connectors for both automation and orchestration
  • Integrating solutions with Microsoft Azure Active Directory single sign-on
  • Creating Microsoft Teams Canvas Power Apps for enterprise business requirements and developing custom components using the Power Apps Component Framework
  • Developing Power BI reports and dashboards
  • Connecting solutions with new and existing enterprise or Common Dataverse data

5 years within the last 10 years specifically with:

  • Visual Studio Integrated Development Environment with C#, .NET, Python
  • Visual Studio Code with JavaScript, TypeScript and Node.js

Please note that if an offer of employment is presented, you will be required to complete a Government of Canada security screening process prior to commencing work.

Why Button?
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to play a key role in creating a more sustainable future through digital transformation.

We are open to you joining as a Full Time Employee, Hourly Term Employee or as an Incorporated Independent Contractor on an hourly basis. The hourly rate is reflective of each of those options.

Full Time Employees of Button receive:

  • Generous total compensation plan
  • 25 days of paid time off (15 vacation days, 10 sick/personal days) to ensure a healthy work-life balance
  • An extra day off for your birthday! (So you’re not pushing to production on your special day)
  • Full benefits package to look after you and your family, plus a health spending account
  • Commitment to continuous learning and mentorship, with time provided for professional and personal development
  • Remote work with flexibility when you need it, as long as you communicate clearly with your team (we value a trust-based team culture!)
