Selected candidates may be contacted as needs arise based on project scope, location, timing, availability and relevant experience.

The opportunity

Stage Managers support the disciplined execution of event programs from rehearsal through show close. Depending on the assignment, they may independently manage the run of show or work alongside an Event Producer, Creative Producer or Technical Director. The role requires precise cueing, clear backstage leadership, confident client communication and calm decision-making in fast-moving live environments.

Typical engagement scope

  • Independently execute assigned productions or support the designated producer and technical leadership team.
  • Maintain, revise and distribute the run of show once installation and rehearsals begin.
  • Direct rehearsals when assigned, translating client and producer direction into clear instructions for technical and show-site teams.
  • Call lighting, audio, video and graphics cues at the predetermined moments.
  • Coordinate speaker, executive and talent entrances, exits and backstage readiness.
  • Proactively troubleshoot production issues and communicate material impacts to the assigned project lead.
  • Collaborate with venue and technical teams to support a polished client and audience experience.
  • Act as the primary onsite client contact for show flow when an Encore producer is not assigned.

Pre-production and show preparation

  • Review the approved scope, production schedule, run of show, scripts, cue sheets, presentation requirements and technical plans.
  • Participate in production meetings and clarify show-flow responsibilities, communication protocols and escalation paths.
  • Create and maintain organized show files for pre-production, onsite execution and post-production.
  • Support proposals, bids or production planning when included in the engagement scope.
  • Identify gaps or risks in show flow and recommend practical solutions before rehearsals and show time.

Rehearsals and onsite execution

  • Lead or support rehearsals and confirm that presenters, talent, technical operators and backstage teams understand the sequence of events.
  • Maintain control of show timing and cue execution while adapting documentation to approved changes.
  • Communicate concise, unambiguous cues over show communications systems.
  • Manage backstage activity, including speaker readiness, presentation requirements, entrances and exits.
  • Coordinate with the client, producer, technical director, venue and crew to resolve issues without disrupting the program.
  • Maintain professional show-site conduct, documentation and confidentiality.

Post-event

  • Provide updated show files, cue notes and other agreed closeout documentation.
  • Participate in project debriefs when requested.
  • Communicate unresolved issues, lessons learned and relevant follow-up items to the designated project lead.

What you bring

  • Three to five years of relevant technical production or stage-management experience.
  • Practical experience calling a live show and working from run-of-show, script and cue documentation.
  • Working knowledge of audio, lighting, video, graphics and backstage production workflows.
  • Experience in the audiovisual, live-events, hospitality or convention environment.
  • Clear interpersonal communication and strong working relationships with clients, presenters, crews and partners.
  • Calm judgment, organization and problem-solving under time pressure.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a larger production team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant college or post-secondary education is an asset.

Engagement requirements

  • Ability to work flexible project schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to travel to event locations when required by the assignment.
  • Ability to work in offices, hotels, convention centres and other event environments where noise, activity levels and conditions vary.
  • Ability to work around audiovisual equipment, electrical components, lifts, ladders and active production areas while following applicable safety requirements.

Engagements arising from this posting are project-based and subject to a separate written agreement. The specific agreement will govern the services, fees, expenses, confidentiality, intellectual property, insurance and other terms applicable to the assignment. Reasonable accommodations are available during the selection process and, where applicable, in connection with an engagement.
