Job description

Your future role on our team

BBA is looking for a motivated Mine Waste and/or Geotechnical Engineer to join our Tailings and Mine Waste team from our Toronto office. In this role, you’ll help design, analyze, and manage mine waste facilities such as tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, and water management structures throughout all project stages—from development and construction to operations, closure, and reclamation. You’ll assist senior engineers with geotechnical investigations, design work, and data analysis, ensuring all work meets safety and regulatory standards. The position includes both office and field work, including report preparation, design documentation, and construction support.

Collaboration is key—you’ll work with multidisciplinary teams (mining, civil, environmental, and process engineers) and occasionally interact with clients and regulators. Over time, you’ll gain hands-on experience in risk assessments, dam safety reviews, and performance monitoring of mine waste structures. This is a great opportunity to develop your technical and project management skills while contributing to safe, sustainable, and innovative solutions in mine waste management.

With us, you’ll get the opportunity to...

  • Manage and direct geotechnical site investigations, supervise investigation activities, test laboratory materials and prepare technical reports
  • Review and supervise civil/geotechnical related construction activities
  • Analyze geotechnical engineering including slope stability, seepage and deformation analysis
  • Apply rock mechanics principles, including field mapping, geotechnical core logging, rock mass characterization, rock stability assessment, and reinforcement design
  • Plan geotechnical instrumentation , supervise installation, monitor and report of results
  • Participate in multidisciplinary project teams, including ensuring the technical quality of deliverables
  • Collaborate and participate in technical discussions with team members and clients
  • Participate in proposal efforts
  • Travel to project sites within Canada or internationally
