Job description

The Gorman Group is a modern, innovative forest products company with six divisions across the Interior of British Columbia and Northern Washington State. Guided by a commitment to quality, sustainability, and community, we are proud to be a trusted leader in the forest industry. Our people are our greatest strength, and their ideas, involvement, and contributions are essential to our continued success. Our operations reflect a dedication to operational excellence, safety, and responsible forest stewardship.

Gorman Woodlands is seeking an experienced Woodlands General Manager to oversee our South Zone forestry operations. Based in either our West Kelowna or Princeton office with regular time spent at both offices, and reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this position provides leadership to the entire Woodlands (South Zone) team. The successful candidate will join an empowered group of professionals managing forestry operations across the Nicola, Similkameen, and Okanagan regions of Southern British Columbia.

In this role, you will work with dedicated professionals across a broad range of forest management activities, with opportunities to further expand your knowledge, experience, and leadership capabilities. You will also collaborate with Indigenous communities and other stakeholders to advance sustainable, responsible forest management. Together, the Woodlands team supplies approximately 1.0 million m³ of wood each year to Similkameen Forest Products and Gorman Bros. Lumber, as well as other wood-using facilities throughout the region.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Model strong leadership and accountability while reinforcing a culture of safety, professionalism, integrity, and responsible forest stewardship.
  • Lead and support a team of 27 employees in delivering the annual allowable cut (AAC) and managing all obligations associated with TFL59, A18698, A74911, A18671, and various tenures managed on behalf of other licensees.
  • Develop budgets and forecasts, monitor financial and operational performance, and support a predictable wood flow to Gorman Bros. Lumber, Similkameen Forest Products, and other manufacturing facilities that depend on fibre from the managed tenures.
  • Work collaboratively with the Woodlands North team to share expertise, align practices, and support improvements across Gorman Woodlands.
  • Build and maintain positive, constructive relationships with team members, First Nations, municipal and provincial governments, and other forest tenure holders.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Woodlands team, setting clear expectations and supporting performance, collaboration, and succession planning.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Professional Forester (RPF) in good standing with FPBC.
  • At least 15 years of forestry experience, including leadership of complex operational programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex, multi-stakeholder environments with professionalism and cultural awareness.
  • Proven contract negotiation skills.
  • A strong commitment to safety and responsible forest stewardship.
  • Ability to support a highly proficient team while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • A leadership style grounded in urgency, accountability, integrity, courage, simplicity, creativity, and innovation.
  • A valid driver’s licence.

SALARY RANGE: We offer a competitive compensation package based on skills and experience. The expected base salary range for this position is $170,000 to $200,000 per year.
