IoT-Enabled AI Construction Risk Intelligence | Protecting Projects: Pre-Construction Through Post-Occupancy

Full company description

Construction risk usually shows up after it's already expensive: a burst pipe, a cracked slab, a claim nobody saw coming. Brickeye catches it first. Owners, developers, contractors, and insurers use our AI-native, IoT-enabled platform to protect margins, hold schedules, and cut insurance costs. We put risk in view before, during, and after construction. We de-risk the plan before ground breaks, flag problems and shut them down automatically while crews are on site, and hand over usable data once people move in. Two products, two of the costliest risks on any job. Water damage is the number one construction claim, so our all-risk water mitigation service watches for escaping and intruding water, from burst pipes to wind-driven rain, and shuts it off automatically before a small leak becomes a six-figure claim. That protection earns 50%+ builders risk deductible savings through our insurance partners. Our team runs design, install, monitoring, and support, backed by a certificate of protection your underwriter will actually credit. LumiCon covers the other side: it reads mass concrete from inside the pour, giving teams real temperature, maturity, and strength data so they can strip forms and move to the next floor on schedule, without cracking. Brickeye is building the first AI-native, IoT-enabled construction risk intelligence platform. We're a Deloitte Technology Fast 50 and Globe and Mail Top Growing Company, now running on 5,100+ projects in 20+ countries.

Job description

    About Brickeye

Brickeye leverages the power of data from construction to drive risk mitigation and productivity gains. We are a fast-growing construction technology company developing the world’s most advanced IoT-based risk mitigation platform for water damage mitigation, concrete quality / defect control, and real-time site intelligence. We protect construction projects from avoidable loss, reduce the total cost of risk, and help asset owners, general contractors, and insurers deliver projects on time and on budget.

    The Challenge

Brickeye’s finances are more complex than a typical startup’s. We ship physical hardware and sell software, so every month’s numbers include inventory, subscription revenue and project-based contracts sold to several types of customers. As we scale, that complexity grows faster than headcount. Investors, lenders and auditors expect numbers that are accurate, on time and defensible. Leadership needs those numbers fast enough to make decisions. A close that depends on manual work, spreadsheets and a few people’s memory can’t keep up for long.

The Accounting Manager is the person who fixes that. Reporting directly to our CFO, you’ll own accounting end to end, from the close and controls to inventory, audit and tax. You’ll lead a small team that punches well above its size because AI and automation are built into how it works. This role suits someone who sees a messy process and wants to rebuild it rather than patch it, and who wants the systems, standards and team to carry their fingerprints.

    🧭 Core Responsibilities

    • Own the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close, delivering accurate, timely financial statements and a close process that gets faster and cleaner every cycle

    • Lead and develop a small accounting team, setting priorities, reviewing work, and coaching people toward greater ownership and judgment

    • Build an AI-forward accounting function, finding and rolling out automation, AI tools and system improvements that remove manual work from AP, AR, reconciliations and reporting

    • Manage Payroll across both Canada and the U.S.

    • Manage inventory and cost accounting for our sensor hardware, including costing, valuation, reserves, cycle counts and reconciling physical stock against the books

    • Design and maintain internal controls, accounting policies and documentation that hold up under investor, lender and auditor scrutiny

    • Partner with the CFO and Financial Analyst on reporting, budgeting, forecasting, board materials and investor or lender requests, turning the numbers into insight leadership can act on

    • Collaborate with operations, sales and supply chain on revenue recognition, contract terms, purchasing and vendor management so financial impacts are understood before decisions are made

    • Represent finance externally as the main contact for auditors, tax advisors, banks and key vendors, and run the annual audit and tax filings

    • ⚙️ What You Bring

      • A professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent), in good standing

      • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years leading a team or running the function as the senior accounting owner

      • A background in either a high-growth startup or scale-up finance team, where you built processes from scratch, or a Big 4 firm with a strong audit or advisory foundation (ideally both)

      • Deep, hands-on knowledge of GAAP/ASPE or IFRS, including revenue recognition across mixed subscription and project-based contracts

      • A track record of adopting AI, automation or new accounting systems to transform how a team works, beyond just trying them out

      • Strong command of modern cloud accounting and ERP tools, and advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills

      • Prior usage of AI-native accounting tools (Rillet, Lensing or Campfire) is a plus

      • Comfort being both strategic and hands-on: you can present to the CFO in the morning and fix a reconciliation in the afternoon

      • 🤖 AI-First Mindset

        We believe in AI’s power

        • Early Adopter: You actively use AI tools (such as Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and others) to unlock new possibilities beyond traditional methods. You are energized by how AI enhances what you can achieve.

        • Productivity Multiplier: You view AI as an essential amplifier of innovation and team efficiency—not a substitute for critical thinking or strategic judgment.

        • 🏗️ Why Brickeye

          High-Impact Mission & Technology

          • Solve a Global Problem: Work on a proprietary platform leveraging construction IoT to directly tackle the $1.5 trillion in annual risk and loss in the built environment.

          • Real-World Impact: See your products and innovation immediately translated into tangible results: boosting productivity and mitigating risk across major global construction projects, including in North America, the Middle East, Australia, and Latin America.

          • The Next Challenge: Shape the future of our platform's evolution, from next-generation sensor designs to scalable enterprise SaaS features.

          • Culture & Career Mastery

            • Impact Over Hierarchy: Thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven culture where the best ideas win, not the loudest titles. We value decisive action and ownership.

            • High Autonomy: We trust our experts. You will have a high degree of autonomy to own projects from concept through deployment, directly contributing to our growth.

            • World-Class Team: Learn and grow alongside a team of domain experts who are dedicated to mutual success and professional excellence.

            • Rewards & Flexibility

              • Competitive Compensation: We offer a competitive base salary, and annual performance incentives.

              • Be an Owner: A robust equity package, making you an owner of Brickeye so that you can share in our success.

              • Flexible Work Environment: Enjoy a truly flexible work environment that prioritizes delivery and results over rigid clock-watching. We don't mind if you need to run to a mid-day appointment or pick up your kid early from school.

              • Health Benefits: Competitivemedical, and dental benefits.

              • Salary Range
                $80,000 - $120,000 per year CAD
Where you land depends on your experience and what you bring to the table. If you’re a strong fit but your expectations sit outside this range, we’d still like to hear from you.

At Brickeye, people make our hiring decisions — every application selected is personally reviewed by our team. We do use AI tools to assist in screening applications as part of that process.
