Job description

About Viking Reinforcing

Viking Reinforcing Ltd. is a family owned reinforcing steel fabricator and installer based in Parksville, founded in 2007. We supply and place rebar for general contractors and owners across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland, with more than one hundred people in the field and the yard. We are ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certified and hold the WorkSafeBC Certificate of Recognition. Our office is busy, friendly and practical, and we are growing.

The role

We are hiring a full time Administrative Assistant to support our office and accounting team. This is a general support role, not an accounting position. You will keep the office running day to day: answering phones, greeting visitors, filing, keeping records in order, and helping staff with routine reports and requests. You will be trained on our office software and will become the person people come to when they need a document found, a report pulled or a task handled.

What you will do

Answer and direct incoming phone calls and emails.
File, scan and organize project, supplier and personnel records, paper and electronic.
Learn our office and project software and help staff prepare reports, forms and routine requests.
Assist the accounting team with data entry, matching invoices and packing slips, and preparing documents for review. No bookkeeping or accounting experience is required.
Order office supplies, handle incoming and outgoing mail and couriers, and keep the office tidy and stocked.
Help with scheduling, meeting set up, and other duties as needed to support the office and management.

What we are looking for

Two or more years of office or customer service experience, or equivalent.
Comfortable on the phone and with the public; clear, friendly and professional.
Organized and accurate, with attention to detail in filing and data entry.
Confident with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and quick to learn new software.
Reliable, self directed and able to handle a busy office with changing priorities.
Discretion with confidential information.
Experience in construction, manufacturing or a trades environment is an asset but not required.

What we offer

$24.00 per hour to start, with regular day shift hours, Monday to Friday.
After a six month probation period: extended medical and dental benefits, and a matching RRSP program.
Paid vacation and statutory holidays.
On the job training on our systems.
A stable, long standing local company with a supportive team and room to grow.
