The Calibration Technician IV, working with limited supervision, calibrates, troubleshoots, and continuously improves the instrumentation and control systems critical to manufacturing operations in a cGMP facility. As a skilled technician, the Technician IV self-directs day-to-day calibration priorities based on instrument condition and business need, balancing immediate calibration demands against longer-term reliability improvements, and makes independent technical decisions within the calibration and instrumentation discipline. The role ensures instrument accuracy and compliance with safety and quality standards in a regulated environment.

Job Responsibilities

Calibration & Preventive Maintenance

  • Calibrate, test, evaluate, and inspect critical instrumentation and control systems to provide accurate and reliable process measurement, including daily operational checks such as verification, inspection, and functional testing
  • Conduct scheduled and predictive calibration checks on process and utility instrumentation, including but not limited to temperature, pressure, flow, level, pH, and weight measurement devices, and associated control systems
  • Determine calibration priorities based on instrument history, condition monitoring, and production schedules; manage work order prioritization and scheduling of calibration and preventive tasks to optimize instrument accuracy and operational efficiency

Troubleshooting, Calibration Failure & Reliability

  • Monitor and respond to instrument failures, alarms, and abnormal site conditions by taking appropriate preventive and corrective actions to minimize downtime and maintain continuous operation of the cGMP manufacturing facility
  • Apply internal procedures, industry standards, and manufacturer specifications to inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot production, measuring, and test equipment; resolve issues independently and escalate those falling outside established procedures
  • Perform Calibration Failure Assessments and Like-for-Like Assessments; inspect third-party calibrations, repairs, and rebuilds for adherence to requirements and quality of work
  • Identify recurring out-of-tolerance conditions and failure modes, and propose and implement improvements to instrument performance, reliability, and safety; participate in projects to upgrade instrumentation or calibration processes

Compliance, Documentation & Safety

  • Document all calibration, repair, preventive maintenance, and modification activities accurately in work orders, calibration certificates, and maintenance records
  • Ensure all calibration activities are conducted in compliance with cGMP, company policies, safety standards, and SOPs
  • Follow all safety protocols, perform risk assessments, and support initiatives to promote a safe working environment, including compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations

Experience & Education

Minimum Qualifications

  • Progressive and substantial hands-on calibration and instrumentation experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical or food manufacturing environment

    • Electrical: single- and three-phase systems, control circuits, and instrumentation loop wiring; ability to read electrical schematics and use a multimeter and other electrical test equipment
    • Mechanical: pumps, valves, and process piping systems as they relate to instrument installation and calibration points
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Positive and flexible approach in responding to demanding operational situations
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent and shifting priorities, and to independently determine work sequence and technical approach within the calibration and instrumentation discipline

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-year diploma or certificate in Instrumentation, Electrical, Electromechanical, Automation, or Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of industrial calibration or instrumentation experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical or food manufacturing environment
  • Instrumentation and Control Technician (447A) license
  • Industrial Electrician (442A) license
  • Experience with processing, filling, and packaging equipment
  • Experience in a cGMP environment and maintenance awareness
