Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a DevOps Technical Lead / Architect – Azure & Terraform based in Canada.

We are seeking an experienced DevOps leader to guide platform engineering and modernize a .NET-based insurance platform hosted in Azure. You will work closely with technology leadership to define and deliver long-term improvements while supporting ongoing development and operational needs. A key part of the role will be evolving CI/CD practices, infrastructure as code, and release management to improve reliability, security, and scalability. You will help move a monolithic platform toward a more service-oriented architecture through reusable automation and robust cloud engineering practices. Combining hands-on technical expertise with architectural direction, you will lead platform improvements, strengthen operational processes, and support a high-performing engineering team. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact on a complex modernization initiative within a collaborative, international technology environment.

Accountabilities:

Lead the platform engineering team and collaborate with client technology leadership to define and deliver long-term platform improvement initiatives alongside ongoing development requests.

  • Design, implement, and maintain shared, version-controlled CI/CD pipeline templates with integrated quality and security gates.

  • Establish build-once release promotion practices across Test, Staging, Pre-Production, and Production environments, including approval workflows and rollback capabilities.

  • Coordinate and execute regular weekly and off-cycle production deployments, including database releases and post-deployment validation.

  • Work with release management teams to assess deployment readiness and support go/no-go decisions.

  • Develop reusable Terraform infrastructure as code modules and automate standardized environment provisioning.

  • Identify and remediate infrastructure configuration drift, and manage the decommissioning of legacy environments.

  • Strengthen cloud security, identity, and access management through secrets and key management, access request handling, and cloud resource hardening.

  • Lead root-cause analysis of platform incidents and coordinate remediation to improve system stability and prevent recurrence.

  • Maintain operational runbooks, support knowledge transfer, and establish effective processes for managing unplanned work and incoming requests.

  • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to support platform modernization, automation, and operational excellence.

  • Requirements:

    • Proven experience building and configuring Azure environments from the ground up using Terraform.

    • Strong knowledge of Terraform modules, state management, infrastructure lifecycle management, and CI/CD-driven infrastructure deployments.

    • Hands-on expertise with Azure services, including App Services, Key Vault, Cosmos DB, networking, and identity services.

    • Extensive experience with Azure DevOps and Azure Pipelines for build automation, release management, and deployment workflows.

    • Practical experience with Docker and Kubernetes in containerized application environments.

    • Familiarity with monitoring and observability solutions such as Grafana and Azure Application Insights.

    • Demonstrated experience migrating manually provisioned infrastructure to infrastructure as code without causing production outages.

    • Previous experience working as a technical lead, DevOps architect, or in a comparable senior engineering leadership position.

    • Strong understanding of cloud security, access controls, secrets management, deployment governance, and operational best practices.

    • Ability to lead technical initiatives while remaining comfortable with hands-on implementation and troubleshooting.

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex platform issues and drive sustainable solutions.

    • Effective communication and collaboration skills, particularly when working with technology leadership, engineering teams, and release management stakeholders.

    • Benefits:

      • Annual salary: CAD 150,000–165,000. Individual offers depend on experience, qualifications, education, training, skills, role requirements, and local market considerations.

      • Extended healthcare coverage, including prescription drugs, dental, and vision care.

      • Company-paid Healthcare Spending Account.

      • Company-paid life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance.

      • Company-paid Employee Assistance Program.

      • Company-paid telehealth services.

      • Short-term disability coverage and long-term disability insurance.

      • Paid time off, including vacation and sick days.

      • Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) with company matching contributions.

      • Maternity, parental, and adoption leave top-up.

      • Employee Stock Purchase Program.

      • Critical illness insurance.

      • Employee discounts.

      • Unlimited access to LinkedIn Learning solutions.

      • Opportunity to work on international projects and collaborate with multidisciplinary, multicultural teams.

      • Access to continuous learning, professional development, and mentorship in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
