Job description

The Director, Product Analytics will lead the Product Analytics function within Group Benefits, with primary accountability for using data and analytics to deepen understanding of our products, customers and members and to support better product and business decisions.

The incumbent will shape the strategy and evolution of Product Analytics, partnering closely with Product, Distribution and other business leaders to provide trusted, relevant and actionable insights across the product lifecycle. The role will help identify emerging trends, understand product performance and customer needs, evaluate opportunities and support decisions that strengthen our Group Benefits products and the value they provide to Canadians.

Through better use of data and insights, the Director will help connect product decisions to customer and member outcomes, supporting the broader ambition of improving the health and well-being of Canadians.

In addition to Product Analytics, the Director will contribute to and lead broader analytics initiatives across Group Benefits where the team's capabilities, data and expertise can create value. This may include customer and member analytics, portfolio insights, operational analytics, strategic business priorities and emerging analytical needs.

Working closely with Product, Distribution, Operations, Data and Technology partners, the Director will lead the development and evolution of analytical capabilities, including advanced analytics, dashboards and reporting, self-service analytics, data products and strategic insights. The role will balance immediate business needs with scalable analytical solutions, strong data governance, appropriate data protection and a clear focus on business and customer value.

The Director will also lead and develop a high-performing analytics team, establishing clear priorities, strengthening analytical capabilities and building a culture focused on curiosity, partnership and measurable business outcomes.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Product Analytics function and team. Establish priorities and a clear analytics roadmap aligned with Group Benefits' product and business strategies. Coach and develop employees while fostering a collaborative, accountable and high-performing team.
  • Partner closely with Product leaders and teams. Understand strategic priorities, opportunities and business questions and translate them into meaningful analytics, insights and recommendations.
  • Advance the Product Analytics strategy. Evolve the organization beyond traditional reporting toward proactive, insight-driven analytics that influence product strategy, development and ongoing management.
  • Deepen understanding of product performance and customer needs. Use data to identify trends, opportunities, emerging issues and areas where products or customer experiences can be improved.
  • Support decisions across the product lifecycle. Bring analytical perspectives to product development, enhancements, portfolio management, customer adoption and ongoing product performance.
  • Use analytics to improve outcomes for customers and members. Identify insights that enable better product and business decisions and contribute to improving the health and well-being of Canadians.
  • Develop and evolve Product Analytics capabilities. Advance dashboards, recurring reporting, exploratory analytics, self-service capabilities, data products and more sophisticated analytical approaches.
  • Enable data and analytics for AI adoption. Partner with Data and Technology teams to improve the quality, structure, accessibility and governance of data so it is appropriately prepared for use in AI and advanced analytics, helping unlock new Product Analytics and broader Group Benefits use cases.
  • Support broader Group Benefits analytics priorities. Apply the team's analytical expertise to strategic business questions beyond Product Analytics where appropriate, including customer, member, sponsor, portfolio and operational analytics.
  • Identify emerging analytical opportunities. Partner with business leaders to frame complex or ambiguous questions, assess available data, develop analytical approaches and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Strengthen data storytelling. Translate complex information into clear, relevant and actionable insights for Product partners, senior leaders and other business stakeholders.
  • Drive consistency, efficiency and automation. Reduce manual effort and create reusable analytical capabilities that can be leveraged across products and other areas of Group Benefits.
  • Advance the analytics data ecosystem. Partner with Data and Technology teams to establish the data, platforms and capabilities required for reliable, timely and increasingly sophisticated product and business analytics.
  • Champion data quality, governance and protection. Ensure analytical products and insights are based on trusted data and adhere to enterprise governance, privacy and data protection standards.
  • Establish measures of success. Define and monitor business impact, stakeholder value, adoption, analytical effectiveness and continued advancement of capabilities.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement. Assess emerging technologies, including AI and advanced analytics, and identify practical opportunities to strengthen Product Analytics, improve analytical efficiency and create value across Group Benefits.
  • Represent Product Analytics in cross-functional initiatives. Ensure analytical needs and opportunities are appropriately considered in Group Benefits product, data, technology and business decisions.

Required Qualifications:

  • University degree in business, finance, analytics, technology, mathematics, engineering or another quantitative field. An advanced degree is considered an asset.

  • Strong ability to use data visualization and storytelling to communicate insights and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with modern analytics, business intelligence and data technologies, including dashboards, automated reporting and self-service analytical capabilities.
  • Understanding of the data foundations required to support AI and advanced analytics, including data quality, structure, governance, accessibility and responsible use.
  • Ability to identify analytical opportunities, structure ambiguous business questions and translate data into recommendations and measurable business outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of data management principles, including data quality, governance, privacy and protection.
  • Demonstrated ability to challenge business requests appropriately and prioritize analytical work based on customer value, business value, strategic alignment and organizational capacity.
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills, with demonstrated ability to establish credibility with senior leaders and cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to operate effectively across a complex, matrixed organization and bring together Product, business, Data and Technology partners around shared objectives.
  • Curious, pragmatic and outcome-oriented, with a passion for using data and analytics to improve products, customer experiences and the health and well-being of Canadians.
