Job description

Build Your Career. Lead Meaningful Environmental Work.

Are you looking for an opportunity to manage environmental projects that move sites from assessment through remediation, reclamation, redevelopment, and closure?
MEMS is seeking an Environmental Project Manager (s) or Senior Project Manager (s) to join our growing team in Alberta or British Columbia.

This opportunity can be tailored to an experienced Project Manager ready to expand their technical and leadership capabilities or to a Senior Project Manager who can lead complex portfolios, strengthen client relationships, and mentor developing professionals.
You will work with multidisciplinary teams on environmental site assessment, contaminated-site remediation, reclamation, risk assessment, and regulatory closure projects

The Project Manager may manage multiple low- to moderate-complexity projects or contribute project management leadership to more complex, multidisciplinary work under appropriate senior oversight. The role also supports client relationships, proposal development, project team effectiveness, mentorship, and continuous improvement of MEMS’ project delivery practices.

The Work You Will Lead

Your project portfolio may include:
• Phase I, II, and III environmental site assessments;
• Contaminated-site investigation and conceptual site model development;
• Remediation planning, implementation, and performance monitoring;
• Risk assessment and risk-based site management strategies;
• Brownfield redevelopment and site-closure planning;
• Pre-reclamation assessments and detailed site assessments;
• Reclamation, revegetation, vegetation monitoring, and site maintenance programs;
• Reclamation certificate and Certificate of Restoration support;
• Construction environmental monitoring and contractor coordination;
• Regulatory submissions, database reporting, and project closeout; and
• Multi-site environmental portfolios for energy, industrial, commercial, infrastructure, government, and other clients.
What You Will Accomplish

Deliver Successful Projects

• Translate client objectives and contractual commitments into practical scopes, work plans, budgets, schedules, milestones, and resource plans.
• Lead projects through planning, execution, monitoring, change management, reporting, and closeout.
• Coordinate technical specialists, field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and other contributors so that responsibilities and timelines are clear.
• Monitor project performance against scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and client expectations.
• Identify emerging issues early and implement or recommend practical recovery strategies.
• Ensure deliverables are technically sound, complete, consistent, and defensible.

Lead Environmental Programs

• Interpret historical, published, regulatory, and site-specific information to develop a clear understanding of site conditions.
• Develop and communicate conceptual site models, key environmental issues, data gaps, and recommended next steps.
• Plan and oversee site assessment, remediation, reclamation, monitoring, and closure activities.
• Compile, interpret, and communicate technical findings through reports, presentations, work plans, and regulatory submissions.
• Develop practical, risk-informed environmental management and remedial strategies appropriate to the site and client objectives.
• Review technical deliverables and regulatory submissions at a level appropriate to your experience and professional qualifications.

Manage Financial and Commercial Performance

• Develop realistic estimates, budgets, forecasts, billing plans, and cost-to-complete projections.
• Track actual costs, commitments, progress, accruals, milestones, and project risks.
• Work collaboratively with Finance and operational leaders to support accurate billing, revenue recognition, and financial reporting.
• Manage scope changes through timely documentation, client communication, authorization, and implementation.
• Contribute technical and project-delivery insight to proposals, fee estimates, work plans, and contract reviews.

Build Trusted Client Relationships

• Serve as a reliable point of contact for assigned clients and stakeholders.
• Understand client priorities, success measures, decision-making requirements, and communication preferences.
• Provide clear, timely updates on progress, risks, financial position, decisions, changes, and upcoming milestones.
• Build trust through responsive service, sound judgment, technical credibility, and consistent follow-through.
• Identify opportunities to provide additional value and support the development of recurring client relationships.
• At the senior level, contribute to client growth plans, networking, proposal strategy, and the development of new business opportunities.

Strengthen the Team
• Create clarity within project teams by confirming responsibilities, priorities, decision rights, and deadlines.
• Provide practical coaching and technical or project-management guidance to developing professionals.
• Promote respectful communication, knowledge sharing, teamwork, and early escalation of capacity or competency concerns.
• At the senior level, mentor Project Managers and technical staff, support competency development, and provide oversight across complex or multi-site portfolios.
• Share lessons learned and help improve MEMS’ project tools, estimating practices, reporting, workflows, and quality controls.

The Level of the Role
We recognize that strong candidates may bring different combinations of technical knowledge, client experience, and project leadership. The successful candidate may be hired as a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager based on demonstrated capability.

Project Manager
You may be a strong fit at the Project Manager level if you:
• Have approximately three or more years of relevant environmental consulting or project-delivery experience;
• Can independently manage multiple projects of low to moderate complexity;
• Have experience developing work plans, budgets, schedules, reports, and regulatory submissions;
• Can coordinate field programs, subcontractors, technical contributors, and project financial information; and
• Are ready to expand your client-management, commercial, and leadership responsibilities.

Senior Project Manager
You may be a strong fit at the Senior Project Manager level if you:
• Have approximately five or more years of progressively responsible environmental consulting and project-management experience;
• Can lead moderately complex to complex projects, multi-site programs, or significant client portfolios;
• Have demonstrated success managing project financial performance, contracts, risks, quality, and client expectations;
• Can provide technical and project-management oversight with limited senior direction;
• Have experience developing trusted client relationships and identifying opportunities for repeat or expanded business; and
• Can mentor others, review deliverables, and strengthen the capability of a multidisciplinary team.
