Role and Facility Information

We are seeking a Family Physician with a passion for rural and remote medicine to join the Coast Tsimshian Mobile Primary Care Team (MPCT). This is a unique opportunity to be part of a collaborative partnership between four Coastal First Nation communities, First Nations Health Authority and Northern Health. The selected candidate will deliver well-funded, well-supported holistic care in a multidisciplinary team context to a unique geographical area and be a part of a unique opportunity for innovation, creativity and transformation rectifying inequities in health service delivery.

The Coast Tsimshian MPCT is primarily based in Prince Rupert and will be connected to and supported by the Prince Rupert Primary Care Network to deliver care that is comprehensive, responsive, and as close to home as possible. The Coast Tsimshian MPCT serves the First Nations communities of Gitga’at (Hartley Bay), Lax Kw’alaams (Port Simpson), Maxtakxaata (Metlakatla) and Gitkxaahla (Kitkatla). The physician provides a blended service on in-person visits and telehealth and will be responsible for caring for Coast Tsimshian First Nations members when admitted to PRRH.

Video link/telehealth technology is enabled with access to consultation specialty services and linkage to other health professionals. The EMR platform and NH Cerner OS are used to strengthen care and connectivity to and from the communities and primary care and specialist support will be planned and coordinated to ensure you’re supported in your care delivery in remote communities.
Prince Rupert Regional Hospital is a 25-bed facility offering a full range of services including: Emergency, Radiology, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Internal Medicine and Psychiatry. The hospital is set to receive over $80 million in upgrades. If interested, you may opt in to additional work in the Emergency department, Long Term Care, Obstetrics, OAT, surgical assists and more.

Prince Rupert is home to amazing wildlife and wilderness adventures, unique history and cultural experiences, and the spectacular scenery of the rugged Coast Mountain Range and the Great Bear Rain Forest. Easily accessible by air, rail, cruise ship, ferry or car, Prince Rupert’s attractions include First Nation cultural works of art, fine North Coast galleries and boutiques, parks and walking trails, restaurants, and coffee shops. A balanced lifestyle might include enjoying a round of golf on the golf course or spending time out on the water kayaking, fishing, or taking in the scenery. Reasonable housing costs, organized sports, volunteer opportunities, modern recreation facilities, community groups and festivals all contribute to a comfortable and fulfilling lifestyle for those living in this community.
