Job description

ABOUT EMMERSON PACKAGING

Emmerson Packaging is a third-generation, family-owned company and an industry leader in flexible packaging solutions. We’ve been named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for 17 consecutive years — a reflection of how seriously we take our people, our clients, and our craft.

Our values guide every decision we make:

  • We enhance our lives by helping others succeed
  • We care about our clients, each other, and our communities
  • We are responsible for the outcome of our actions
  • We strive to do the right thing, even if it costs us

ROLE SUMMARY

The General Operator performs production tasks in support of manufacturing operations, ensuring products are produced safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company quality standards and procedures. Placement within a specific production area will be based on business needs.

YOUR SCHEDULE

4 ON 4 OFF

Work 4 days, then enjoy 4 days off — every rotation. Two day shifts followed by two night shifts, then four consecutive days off. This gives you more long weekends than a standard 5-day work week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Operate and monitor production equipment following standard operating procedures
  • Set up, adjust, and perform basic troubleshooting on machinery as needed
  • Inspect products and materials to ensure they meet quality specifications
  • Maintain accurate production records and report deviations to your supervisor
  • Keep your work area clean, organized, and compliant with SQF and safety standards
  • Collaborate with your team to meet production targets
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Good mechanical aptitude — able to perform basic equipment adjustments
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy
  • Clear communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Comfortable working rotating shifts including days and nights
  • Able to lift 40 lbs and stand for extended periods
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in a flexographic or flexible packaging environment
  • Familiarity with quality control or inspection processes
  • Knowledge of SQF or food safety standards

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

  • Competitive wages: $21–$24/hr + $2.00/hr night shift premium
  • Comprehensive health and dental benefits
  • Defined contribution pension plan
  • Profit sharing program
  • Training and development support
  • On-site gym and cafeteria
  • Be part of a team recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies

IMMIGRATION & WORK AUTHORIZATION

We welcome applications from Canadian citizens and permanent residents. We also encourage applications from individuals currently holding an open work permit.

Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) — Designated Employer

Emmerson Packaging is a designated employer under the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP). If you are an international candidate interested in building a future in Nova Scotia, we actively support AIP applications for qualified candidates. To be eligible, you must have at least 2.5 years (30 months) remaining on your current work permit at the time of application.
