Job description

B+H Architects is seeking a highly skilled and technically driven Interior Design Technical Director for our Toronto studio. This senior leadership role is focused on leading the development and execution of Revit modeling, comprehensive project documentation, and robust QA/QC processes for interior design projects of varying scale and complexity.

As a central figure in our technical team, you will guide the production of high-quality construction documentation, ensure design intent is meticulously translated through all phases, and champion best practices in Revit and technical standards. You will be the go-to authority on project documentation, overseeing teams to ensure clarity, accuracy, and compliance from schematic design through to construction completion.

As the Interior Design Technical Director, you will:

  • Lead the creation, development, and management of Revit models across all interior design projects, setting up drawings, standards, and workflows that maximize efficiency and precision.
  • Oversee and manage the complete documentation process, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with project goals, client expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Take full ownership of quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) for all documentation outputs, maintaining the highest standards of technical excellence and accuracy.
  • Review and guide the development of construction drawings, specifications, material schedules, and other technical documents to ensure alignment with design intent and industry benchmarks.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams — including designers, architects, consultants, and contractors — to ensure technical integration and smooth project delivery.
  • Provide technical mentorship to interior designers and production staff, fostering skill development in Revit and documentation best practices.
  • Lead coordination between disciplines to mitigate clashes and ensure seamless documentation and construction transitions.
  • Conduct site reviews during construction to verify implementation aligns with design documentation and resolve technical issues as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local building codes, standards, and regulations, ensuring compliance in all deliverables.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Engage directly with clients to communicate technical details and ensure design needs are fully understood and met.
  • Develop and implement technical design strategies to resolve complex challenges and integrate innovative, sustainable solutions.
  • Lead the Construction Administration (CA) phase, including documentation tracking, responses to RFIs, and site reports.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Over 10 years of experience in interior design, with a strong focus on technical design, leadership, and project management.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard design software, including AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Expertise in construction techniques, materials, building codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven experience leading large, complex projects, with the ability to manage multiple teams and stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with a commitment to fostering professional growth and collaboration within the team.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a strong ability to engage clients, contractors, and internal teams in a cohesive, productive manner.
  • A strong understanding of the intersection of creative design and technical execution to deliver high-quality, functional spaces.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification from a recognized interior design organization (e.g., NCIDQ, LEED accreditation).
  • Experience managing large-scale commercial, hospitality, or residential projects.
  • Expertise in advanced technologies such as BIM (Building Information Modeling) and its integration into design workflows.
