Job description

Role Summary

The IT Field Support Specialist provides hands-on technology support to Modern Niagara’s construction teams, helping Project Managers, Superintendents, Forepersons, and site staff work efficiently across active commercial construction projects. This role supports end-user devices, site connectivity, business applications, and construction technology, ensuring field teams have the tools and support they need to keep projects moving.

The ideal candidate is an approachable, proactive self-starter who is comfortable working independently, building relationships on active construction sites, and translating technical solutions into practical support for non-technical users. Success means responsive service, strong field relationships, and technology that enables productive and efficient site operations.

Why This Role Matters to Modern Niagara

Our construction teams rely on technology to coordinate people, manage information, and deliver projects successfully. The IT Field Support Specialist bridges the gap between IT and field operations, ensuring site teams have reliable technology and timely support when they need it most.

By building trust with field teams, proactively addressing technology challenges, and improving the end-user experience, this role directly contributes to productivity, operational efficiency, and successful project delivery.

Key Impact / Purpose

  • Enable productive construction site operations by providing timely, hands-on technical support and maintaining reliable access to technology, applications, and connectivity.

  • Strengthen relationships between IT and field operations through proactive engagement, regular site visits, and responsive issue resolution.

  • Improve the end-user experience by identifying recurring technology challenges, sharing insights, and recommending opportunities for continuous service improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate regular visits to construction sites and site trailers, working with Construction Leadership to prioritize support needs, communicate progress, and align expectations.

  • Build strong working relationships with Project Managers, Superintendents, Forepersons, trades, and site staff by proactively identifying technology challenges and resolving issues before they impact productivity.

  • Provide hands-on desktop, hardware, software, application, wireless, and network support to construction site personnel.

  • Install, configure, and upgrade end-user devices, software, printers, and related technology infrastructure, including preparing equipment for new hires.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity, device, software, and application issues, escalating more complex technical matters to the appropriate IT teams when required.

  • Support users with business and construction applications, helping field teams understand and make effective use of the technology available to them.

  • Identify opportunities to improve technology adoption, service delivery, and user efficiency through ongoing engagement, training, and education.

  • Maintain accurate records of support activities, service requests, and resolutions to identify recurring issues, share trends, and support continuous improvement.

  • Stay current with the organization's supported hardware, software, and technology solutions to provide effective and consistent end-user support.

Must haves

  • 2–3 years of experience in an IT helpdesk or technical support role, providing both remote and in-person support to end users.

  • Strong understanding of the commercial construction industry, including the project lifecycle, site operations, and the responsibilities of Project Managers, Superintendents, Forepersons, Coordinators, and trades.

  • Hands-on experience supporting front-line field workers in an active commercial construction environment.

  • Working knowledge of desktop hardware, software, Microsoft applications, wireless connectivity, networking, and general IT troubleshooting.

  • Experience managing service tickets from initial request through resolution using an ITSM ticketing platform.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and explain technical concepts in clear, user-friendly language.

  • A proactive, customer-focused approach with strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and schedules, and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.

  • Strong documentation and time management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.

  • Adaptability and willingness to travel regularly between construction sites using a personal vehicle.

  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including light and heavy lifting.

  • Ability to follow construction site health and safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Fluent in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to haves

  • Experience supporting technology users within a mechanical, electrical, or general contracting organization.

  • Experience with Procore or other Construction Management Software.

  • Familiarity with construction site health and safety certifications, such as WHMIS and Working at Heights.

  • Previous experience delivering technology training or helping non-technical users adopt new applications and tools.

  • Experience identifying recurring technical issues and recommending service improvements.

This is a new position; expected annual compensation: $55,000 - $60,000
