The intern will contribute to product discovery, requirements and backlog development, data analysis and validation, product documentation, user acceptance testing, and adoption activities. This role offers hands-on experience at the intersection of data, analytics, technology, Agile product management, and business operations, with mentorship and guidance from experienced product and technical team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Product discovery and stakeholder support
    • Support the Senior Product Leads in understanding business problems, user needs, expected outcomes, and measures of success for assigned data products.
    • Prepare for and participate in stakeholder interviews, workshops, and working sessions.
    • Document current processes, user pain points, business requirements, decisions, and opportunities for data, reporting, analytics, or AI-enabled solutions.
    • Help translate business needs into clear and actionable requirements for technical delivery teams.
  • Backlog and Agile delivery support
    • Draft and refine epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, dependencies, and release notes under the guidance of the Senior Product Leads.
    • Help maintain product documentation and ensure backlog items contain the information required by BI developers, data engineers, and other delivery partners.
    • Participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, demonstrations, retrospectives, and delivery-status discussions.
    • Track actions, decisions, risks, and dependencies and help communicate progress to relevant stakeholders.
  • Data analysis, testing, and validation
    • Explore and profile data using approved tools such as SQL, Excel, Power BI, Python, or Databricks notebooks.
    • Assist with data validation, reconciliation, dashboard and report testing, and user acceptance testing.
    • Investigate data or reporting issues, document findings, and work with technical team members to support resolution.
    • Help confirm that delivered data products and analytics outputs align with documented business requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Data quality, documentation, and adoption
    • Support the documentation of business definitions, data ownership, lineage, quality rules, controls, and product service expectations.
    • Create and maintain process flows, data documentation, decision logs, training materials, release communications, and other product artifacts.
    • Collect and summarize product usage information, quality measures, user feedback, and improvement opportunities.
    • Support release readiness, stakeholder communications, training, and other product-adoption activities.
    • Complete defined analysis or improvement assignments that contribute to the team’s product roadmap and delivery priorities.

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Business Analytics, Business Management, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Preference will be given to students in their 3rd, 4th, or 5th year of study

Requirements:

  • Available for a 4-month work term beginning May 2027.
  • Interest in data products, analytics, artificial intelligence, data engineering, business analysis, product management, or digital technology.
  • Foundational understanding of data concepts such as databases, data models, data quality, reporting, dashboards, or the analytics lifecycle.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with curiosity, attention to detail, and a willingness to investigate data and business-process issues.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences and organize information into useful documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, manage assigned priorities, seek feedback, and learn in a team environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential, sensitive, or regulated information responsibly.
  • Occasional participation in workshops, demonstrations, or release activities outside regular team routines may be required.

Assets:

  • Experience with one or more of SQL, Excel, Power BI, Python, R, Databricks, cloud platforms, or data-visualization tools through coursework, personal projects, internships, or prior employment.
  • Familiarity with Agile or Scrum practices, user stories, acceptance criteria, or product-management concepts.
  • Experience completing a data, analytics, software, or business-analysis project in a team environment.
  • Exposure to data testing, reconciliation, dashboard development, requirements gathering, or process documentation.
  • Interest in retail, marketing, loyalty, supply chain, transportation, finance, operations, or energy-sector data.
