Main Purpose

You will join Trafigura's Canadian Crude Oil Operations team in Calgary, supporting the scheduling and logistics coordination of crude oil moving by pipeline and truck across North America. Working alongside experienced schedulers and in close contact with the Trading desk, you will help ensure nominations, allocations and movements are executed accurately and on time, while building a genuine understanding of the commercial drivers behind each barrel. This is a development role for someone with a strong interest in the commercial side of physical crude, with the opportunity to grow your scheduling expertise and market knowledge over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day scheduling of crude oil movements by pipeline and truck, preparing nominations and confirming allocations under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Monitor daily flows, line and terminal positions and inventory, flagging scheduling conflicts, capacity constraints, apportionment or quality issues early to the team and the Trading desk.
  • Work closely with Trading to understand the commercial rationale behind each movement, supporting execution and highlighting logistical constraints or opportunities that could add value.
  • Communicate day-to-day with pipeline operators, terminal operators and counterparties to coordinate movements and resolve operational queries.
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of nominations, movements and inventory data into Trafigura's systems, maintaining strong data integrity.
  • Support month-end and settlement processes for crude movements, including reconciliations and volume/quality queries, working with Trade Finance and other stakeholders.
  • Follow regulatory, pipeline tariff and contractual requirements, and adhere to Trafigura's policies and codes.
  • Develop your knowledge of Canadian crude markets, including pipeline economics, differentials and logistics optionality, and contribute ideas to improve team processes.
  • Analyze market data for the purpose of developing facility blend models, producer netbacks, and pricing summaries to be distributed to commercial teams

Required Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of experience in crude oil or energy scheduling, logistics, operations or a related midstream, trading or commodities role.
  • Working knowledge of crude oil pipeline, rail or terminal logistics, including nominations and allocations, or a strong demonstrated aptitude to learn quickly.
  • A clear interest in commodity markets and the commercial side of physical trading, with curiosity about how operational decisions affect trading outcomes.
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with data and operational systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines accurately in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in business, finance, economics, engineering, supply chain or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Canadian crude oil pipeline systems and basic crude quality, blending and measurement concepts.
  • Exposure to ETRM/CTRM or scheduling platforms.
  • Previous experience supporting or working alongside a trading desk, including internships or graduate programs in physical commodities.

Attributes for Success

  • Commercial Curiosity: Keen to understand the market and how logistics decisions create or protect value for the Trading desk.
  • Ownership: Takes responsibility for the accuracy and timeliness of own work and follows issues through to resolution.
  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrates rigour when handling nominations, allocations and data.
  • Eagerness to Learn: Receptive to feedback and motivated to build deep scheduling and market expertise.
  • Resilience: Performs well under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Communication: Builds good working relationships with internal teams and external counterparties.
