About Solen Software Group
Solen Software Group is a long-term owner and operator of mission-critical B2B software companies. We acquire proven, profitable software businesses and partner with founders and management teams to build enduring market leaders. Unlike traditional private equity firms, Solen invests with permanent capital — focused on long-term value creation rather than short-term financial engineering.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a highly motivated intern to join our investment team in Toronto and support Solen's expansion across North America. The role offers hands-on exposure to the full investment lifecycle, from identifying acquisition opportunities and engaging with founders to evaluating businesses and supporting transaction execution. As part of a lean, entrepreneurial team, you will work directly with investment professionals in Canada and globally, take ownership of meaningful projects, and contribute to real investment decisions. This is an opportunity for someone passionate about investing, technology, and entrepreneurship to develop strong analytical and commercial skills while helping build Solen's presence in the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, research, and evaluate potential B2B software acquisition targets across North America.
- Conduct market research and industry analyses to identify attractive software verticals and investment opportunities.
- Support deal sourcing efforts, maintain the investment pipeline, and help develop relationships with founders, entrepreneurs, and advisors.
- Analyze business models, competitive positioning, financial performance, and growth opportunities.
- Support financial modeling, valuation analyses, and investment return assessments.
- Prepare company profiles, investment materials, and internal presentations.
- Participate in meetings with founders, management teams, investment banks, and other advisors.
- Support due diligence processes and transaction execution for potential acquisitions.
Key Requirements
We are looking for driven, intellectually curious students who are eager to learn and take responsibility in a fast-paced investment environment.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in investing, private equity, M&A, technology, and entrepreneurship.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Genuine curiosity about businesses, industries, and what drives long-term competitive advantage.
- Strong communication skills in English.
- Familiarity with Excel and basic financial statements.
- High level of ownership, initiative, and ability to work independently.
- Humility, adaptability, and willingness to learn in a collaborative, high-performance environment.
Previous experience in investment banking or private equity is helpful but not required.
Solen-isms (How We Operate)
- Ownership Mindset: We own the mission. We don't wait to be told. We lead, fix, and build as if it were ours. When problems arise, we run toward them, not away.
- Benchmark to Best: We seek out excellence. We measure ourselves against the best and adapt quickly, always looking for the edge that moves us forward.
- Openly Self-Critical: Leaders go first: they surface their misses early, ask for direct feedback, and turn “game film” into better decisions and better systems.
- Disagree & Commit: Leaders disagree openly and constructively, regardless of title or tenure, because truth is how we avoid bureaucracy and benchmark to best.
- Figureitoutiveness: Embracing challenges, fostering growth, and taking initiative, leaders thrive on hard work and high failure tolerance.
- Mutual Elevation: Committed to growth, elevating teams, developing future leaders, and removing barriers to mastery and joy.
- Learn-it-alls: Learn-it-alls, not know-it-alls, embracing failure as part of growth and progress.
- Pioneering: Pioneering driven by opportunity, using first principles thinking and unbound by tradition or rules.
- Will to Win: Leaders relentlessly pursue potential, reject mediocrity, and get what they tolerate.
- Dialectical: We learn through conversation. We ask, listen, question, and evolve — valuing disagreement as a tool for alignment and deeper understanding.
- Frugality: Achieving more with less, focusing on quality, long-term value, and company-wide responsibility.
- Candor: We communicate with integrity, transparency, and respect in all conversations.
- Kaizen: Kaizen is continuous improvement as a way of life. Leaders make hundreds of small upgrades that compound, turning lessons into standards and standards into durable systems.
