Job description

This competition is open to all applicants; however, internal applicants will be given priority consideration based on minimum qualifications or a combination of experience, skills, and abilities before external applicants are considered.

This position has a fixed term from January 2027 to April 2028.

Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Reporting to the Academic Operations Officer, the Program Advisor works closely with students in the Master of Management Analytics (MMA), Master of Accounting (MAcc), Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) and future graduate programs, from the time a student accepts their offer of admission until they graduate. The role requires strong critical thinking and problem-solving, and the ability to look at a request as a whole rather than give a simple answer. Graduate business programs operate in a highly competitive environment, where the student experience directly affects program reputation, rankings and admissions.

The Program Advisor is responsible and accountable for:
• Student program management
• Advising current and prospective students
• Building strong relationships with students and student groups
• Enhancing the student experience
• Researching and carrying out plans and new initiatives to maintain and expand program services
• Cultivating strong relationships with new and existing instructors
• Supporting AACSB Assurance of Learning and accreditation with the Academic Operations Officer and the Associate Dean

Student Program Management and Advising

  • Advises students throughout their program on course selection, registration, leaves of absence, extensions, withdrawals and other academic decisions, and refers them to University resources as needed.
  • Monitors student progress against admission conditions, course requirements and graduation requirements, and keeps accurate, confidential student records.
  • Acts as the primary contact for students, staff and program leads on School and University graduate regulations, and liaises with the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (GPS), the Registrar’s Office and academic departments.
  • Manages program timetables, registration procedures, academic deadlines and student communications.
  • Coordinates with Academic Directors on instructor assignments and course scheduling, books rooms and venues, manages course materials, and supports orientations, receptions and events with the Program Coordinator, Academic.
  • Provides backup coverage to the Program Advisor – EMBA and assists other staff during peak periods.

Accreditation, AACSB Assurance of Learning and Strategic Initiatives

  • Works with the Academic Operations Officer to complete Assurance of Learning (AOL) processes on time, compiles rubrics and assignments, maintains AOL archives and prepares the AOL report for the Master’s Programs.
  • Acts as the lead on professional program accreditation (for example, CPA Alberta).
  • Supports student and instructor surveys, reports results, and contributes program statistics for annual reports, unit review and accreditation.

Student Engagement and Extra-Curricular Activities

  • Acts as the liaison between the Master’s Office and the MMA, MAcc and MRED student groups, and supports the Graduate Business Students Association with policy guidance, governance, goal setting and coordination of activities and events.

The position works in the main program office in the Business Building, in a typical office environment, with remote work up to two days a week. Occasional evening and weekend work is required to support orientations, receptions and student events.

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • 2+ years of related experience, ideally at a university or other academic institution.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize effectively and make independent decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to work well with individuals of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google applications (Docs, Forms, Sheets).
  • Knowledge of University procedures, policies, calendar information, Graduate Studies regulations, and privacy and information management requirements is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Campus Solutions is considered an asset.
