Experienced Equine Hospital RVT

Full-Time | Permanent | 4-On / 4-Off Rotation

Westhills Equine Veterinary Services | Parkland County, Alberta

Are you an experienced Equine RVT looking for more than just another technician position?

Westhills Equine Veterinary Services is searching for an exceptional Registered Veterinary Technologist to become a key leader within our hospital team. This is an opportunity to take ownership of your role, help shape the future of our hospital, and work alongside an experienced group of equine veterinarians in a progressive practice where your skills, knowledge, and clinical judgement are genuinely valued.

If you're an experienced RVT who enjoys thinking critically, taking initiative, mentoring others, and practicing at the top of your scope, we'd love to hear from you.

Why Westhills?

Our goal is to make exceptional equine care sustainable - for horses, for the people who love them, and for the people who provide it.

Westhills is a comprehensive equine reproductive and wellness centre serving horses and their owners through advanced reproductive medicine, foaling and neonatal care, sports medicine, preventive care, hospital medicine and sustainable client-only urgent-care coverage. We are intentionally building clear clinical ownership, dependable technical support and predictable schedules so exceptional medicine does not depend on people being endlessly available.

When you join Westhills EVS, you become part of a small, close-knit team of hardworking professionals who genuinely enjoy supporting one another. We believe our RVT’s are essential members of the medical team - not simply assistants, and encourage every technician to practice at the top of their scope while continuing to grow professionally. Our collaborative culture encourages initiative, leadership, and lifelong learning.

Our hospital offers:

  • State-of-the-art equine facilities designed to support advanced hospitalization, diagnostics and patient care.
  • An intensive reproduction program, providing exposure to advanced reproductive procedures, neonatal foal care, embryo transfer, stallion services, and more.
  • High technician utilization with opportunities to fully use your skillset.
  • Independent case responsibility while working collaboratively alongside experienced veterinarians.
  • Leadership opportunities for an experienced technician looking to mentor others and help guide hospital operations.
  • A supportive, team-focused culture that values work-life balance and celebrates successes together.

About the Role

This position is ideal for an experienced Equine RVT who enjoys taking initiative, leading by example, and playing an integral role in hospital operations.

Working directly alongside the Hospital Veterinarian, you'll coordinate patient care from admission through discharge, ensuring treatments are delivered efficiently, documentation is current, and changes in patient condition are recognized and communicated promptly. This role provides the opportunity to develop continuity with hospitalized cases while functioning as a dependable technical partner to the attending veterinarian.

You'll work a 4-on/4-off rotation, providing consistent hospital coverage while enjoying predictable scheduled time off.

You'll play a leading role in:

  • Delivering exceptional nursing care to hospitalized patients
  • Medication administration, treatment planning, monitoring, nutrition and fluid therapy within RVT scope
  • Organizing medications and coordinating treatment schedules
  • Recognizing changes in patient status and communicating findings promptly to the attending veterinarian
  • Coordinating diagnostics, laboratory testing, sample collection and procedures
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and invoicing throughout hospitalization
  • Providing veterinarian-approved client updates and documenting communication
  • Managing hospital whiteboards, treatment schedules and real-time patient documentation
  • Coordinating smooth shift-to-shift patient handovers
  • Supporting and coaching hospital assistants and veterinary students
  • Maintaining hospital readiness through biosecurity, organization, stocking and equipment preparation

  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • A desire to mentor junior team members while maintaining accountability for exceptional patient care
