Overview

Employer: Canna Cabana (a High Tide Inc. retail cannabis brand)

Job Title: Retail Shift Lead

NOC Code (2021): 62010 - Retail shift Leader (TEER 2)

Number of Positions: 1

Work Locations: Canna Cabana retail stores in Canmore, Alberta

Terms of Employment: Permanent, full-time

Split-Shift Premium:

Hours of Work: Minimum 30 hours per week, worked as a split shift structured around peak business hours (see below). Availability required for evenings, weekends, holidays, and rotation between the Canmore and Banff locations.

Language of Work: English

Position Summary:

Canna Cabana is the flagship retail cannabis brand of High Tide Inc. and operates licensed stores in Canmore and Banff, Alberta. The Retail Shift Supervisor supervises and co-ordinates the activities of sales associates during assigned shifts, ensures compliance with Alberta cannabis retail regulations, and delivers a high standard of customer service in a fast-paced retail environment. The role is performed on a split-shift basis built around the store's busiest periods and requires flexibility across store locations.

Split-Shift Schedule (Peak Hours)

The split shift is deliberately structured around the store's high-traffic periods. Cannabis retail traffic in the Canmore and Banff tourist market concentrates in a busy midday/early-afternoon period and again in a busy late-afternoon/evening period, with a slower lull in between. The Retail Shift Supervisor works a first 4-hour shift covering the earlier peak times, and then works a second 4-hour shift covering the later peak, with both shifts completed within 12 hours of their scheduled start time. This places experienced supervisory coverage on the floor when customer volume, ID verification, and compliance demands are highest. Total scheduled hours are 8 per day and 40 per week (5 days/week).

Responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities (consistent with NOC 62010)

  • Supervise, co-ordinate, and provide direction, guidance, and instruction to sales associates during assigned shifts.
  • Authorize payments, refunds, exchanges, and merchandise returns in accordance with company policy.
  • Sell cannabis products and accessories, greet and assist customers, and ensure a positive shopping experience.
  • Resolve issues that arise during the shift, including customer requests, complaints, operational issues, and supply shortages, escalating to management where required.
  • Maintain specified inventory and support merchandise operations, including receiving, stocking, merchandising, product availability, and inventory control.
  • Train employees to ensure compliance with company standards, customer service expectations, and operational procedures.
  • Handle cash transactions accurately, including cash reconciliation, deposits, and adherence to cash-handling procedures.
  • Act as a key holder responsible for opening and/or closing the store, securing the premises, and following all required opening and closing procedures.
  • Verify customer identification and enforce Alberta's minimum-age requirements and all applicable cannabis retail regulations.
  • Ensure the secure storage, handling, sale, and documentation of cannabis products in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Support achievement of sales targets and encourage sales initiatives.
  • Maintain store cleanliness, organization, visual merchandising standards, and overall store presentation.
  • Ensure all employees follow workplace health and safety policies, security procedures, and applicable legislation.
  • Support the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager with daily operations and assume leadership responsibilities in their absence.
  • Any other duties as assigned based on business needs.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Completion of secondary school is required.

  • Minimum of 2 years of retail work experience is required; cannabis retail experience is preferred.

  • Demonstrated sales and service orientation, with a proven ability to train, motivate, and lead staff.

  • Strong time-management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Basic office administration skills and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English with individuals at all levels of the organization.

  • Thorough understanding of applicable health and safety legislation.

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts, and to work at different store locations.

Required Certifications

  • Valid SellSafe certification as required by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC).
  • Must meet all AGLC licensing/registration requirements applicable to retail cannabis staff.
  • Successful completion of all mandatory company compliance and health & safety training.
  • Valid First Aid certification is considered an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Split-shift schedule built around peak business hours (two 4-hour shifts per day with an unpaid break in between); 8 scheduled hours per day and 40 hours per week.
  • Fast-paced retail environment with changing priorities.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, with travel/rotation between the Canmore and Banff store locations.

We thank all applicants in advance for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
