Job description

Senior Architect, Office Lead
Kamloops, BC
Architecture & Design Firm
Salary: Competitive, Based on Experience + Benefits
Design Leadership. Business Growth. A Pathway to Partnership.

About the Firm

Our client is an established and respected architecture firm with a diverse portfolio of projects across British Columbia, spanning residential, commercial, institutional and other complex building types.

With a strong reputation for thoughtful, innovative design and a commitment to delivering quality architecture, the firm has developed lasting client relationships and a collaborative approach to project delivery.

Their work combines creativity with practical solutions, with an appreciation for sustainable design, emerging building technologies and materials, including mass timber.

The firm offers a supportive and collaborative environment where individuals are encouraged to take ownership, share ideas and contribute to the overall direction of the practice.

As part of their continued growth, they are looking for an experienced Senior Architect to take on a significant leadership role within their Kamloops office.

This is a key appointment for the firm, offering the opportunity to lead an established team, influence the future of the office and play an integral role in its long-term success.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished Senior Architect who is ready to take on a broader leadership role, combining architectural design, project delivery, people management and business development.

You will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to the Kamloops office, overseeing a varied portfolio of projects while ensuring the team continues to deliver high-quality architectural work.

The role requires someone who has built a strong foundation in project management and understands what it takes to successfully lead multiple projects, manage client expectations, coordinate project teams and navigate the complexities of design and construction.

While strong technical knowledge and project delivery experience are essential, the firm is equally interested in someone with a genuine passion for architecture and a well-developed design aesthetic. You will have the opportunity to contribute your own creative vision, influence design decisions and help maintain a high standard of work across the office.

A significant part of the opportunity will also involve the business side of architecture. You will work closely with senior leadership to strengthen existing client relationships, develop new connections, identify project opportunities and contribute to the continued growth of the Kamloops practice.

Equally important is your ability to lead people. The firm is looking for someone who enjoys mentoring and developing others, can inspire confidence within a team and has the interpersonal skills to create a positive, collaborative and productive working environment.

This is not simply a senior project management position. It is an opportunity to become a key leader within the organization, with the autonomy to make decisions, shape the direction of the office and contribute to its long-term business strategy.

For someone with the right experience, ambition and entrepreneurial mindset, there is a strong trajectory toward a future Principal or Partner position.

The Role

  • Provide overall architectural leadership and direction to the Kamloops office, supporting both project delivery and team development.

  • Lead and oversee a diverse portfolio of architectural projects from initial concept and design development through construction documentation and contract administration.

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring schedules, budgets, resources and deliverables are effectively coordinated.

  • Maintain a high standard of architectural design, contributing creative direction and ensuring thoughtful, well-resolved design solutions.

  • Oversee project planning, staffing, consultant coordination, financial performance and quality control.

  • Act as a senior point of contact for clients, consultants, contractors and other project stakeholders.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring a positive experience throughout all stages of project delivery.

  • Mentor and support Architects, Intern Architects, Technologists and other team members, helping develop their technical, design and project management capabilities.

  • Provide guidance on complex design challenges, technical detailing, building codes and construction-related issues.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership on office operations, resource planning, staffing needs and long-term strategic initiatives.

  • Take an active role in business development, including networking, relationship building, identifying new opportunities and contributing to proposals and project pursuits.

  • Help strengthen the firm's market presence and identify opportunities to expand its portfolio and client base.

  • Support a collaborative office culture that values design excellence, accountability, professional development and teamwork.

  • Play an important role in shaping the future growth and long-term success of the Kamloops practice.

What We're Looking For

  • Registered Architect with the AIBC or another Canadian provincial architectural association, with eligibility and willingness to transfer registration to BC.

  • 10+ years of post-graduate architectural experience, with a strong foundation in design, technical development, project management and construction administration.

  • A diverse portfolio of architectural projects across multiple building types and sectors.

  • A strong design aesthetic, creative vision and the ability to lead and contribute to high-quality architectural outcomes.

  • Extensive project management experience, with demonstrated success managing multiple projects of varying sizes and complexities.

  • Proven ability to oversee projects through all phases, including design, consultant coordination, permitting, construction documentation and contract administration.

  • Experience with mass timber construction and an interest in sustainable building practices considered an asset.

  • Previous experience in a senior architectural or leadership capacity, with the ability to mentor, motivate and develop a team.

  • Strong understanding of project financials, fee management, budgeting, scheduling and resource allocation.

  • Business development experience, including building client relationships, identifying opportunities and contributing to securing new projects.

  • Strong knowledge of building codes, construction methods, detailing and architectural best practices.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to work directly with clients, consultants and senior stakeholders.

  • Sound judgment, strong problem-solving abilities and the confidence to make decisions and take accountability.

  • Highly organized, adaptable and comfortable balancing design leadership, project responsibilities and business priorities.

  • A proactive, self-motivated and driven individual with an entrepreneurial mindset and a genuine interest in contributing to the growth of a practice.

  • Someone who leads by example, values collaboration and has the ambition to progress into a Principal or Partner position.

What's Offered

  • Competitive compensation based on experience, along with benefits.

  • A significant leadership opportunity within an established and respected architectural practice.

  • A strong pathway for career advancement toward Principal or Partner.

  • The autonomy to influence the direction, operations and continued growth of the Kamloops office.

  • A diverse and interesting portfolio of projects offering opportunities for creative design and technical challenges.

  • The opportunity to work on innovative projects, including those incorporating sustainable design and mass timber construction.

  • A collaborative and supportive environment with experienced architectural professionals.

  • The ability to build and develop your own team, mentor emerging professionals and influence office culture.

  • Direct involvement in business development, strategic planning and long-term decision-making.

  • The opportunity to establish yourself as a key leader within the firm and contribute meaningfully to its future success.

  • A long-term career opportunity for someone looking to combine their passion for architecture with leadership, business development and practice growth.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a Senior Architect who has developed a strong career in design and project delivery and is ready to take the next step into a meaningful leadership position.
