Job Description :

At Cogeco, our lasting commitment to communities fuels our daring ambition to outmaneuver industry giants. We pride ourselves in being audacious in our aspirations while being grounded by our deeply human and connected culture.

As Senior Director, Communications, you will serve as the strategic engine behind our enterprise narrative and corporate reputation, driving both our internal and external mobilization.

Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer as a core partner in driving business transformation and organizational alignment, you will direct enterprise-wide communications across North America. In doing so, you will lead a robust external media, PR, and corporate reputation strategy while architecting and driving an internal communications engine that connects and mobilizes our frontline, business and corporate teams.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Advisory & Executive Partnership

  • Act as a direct, trusted communications advisor to the CEO and Executive Committee (ExCo), delivering concise, data-backed counsel on communication strategies, change initiatives, and enterprise alignment needed to drive the overall business goals.
  • Proactively network with leaders across the organization to build trust, uncover key stories to be told, and drive strategic platform and messaging work that connects internal mobilization with external brand resonance.
  • Drive executive thought leadership strategies that earn credibility with executive stakeholders and amplify our challenger story across North America, focusing on opinion-driven impact rather than sheer volume.
  • Translate complex business decisions, financial targets, regulatory policies, and market shifts into clear, rallying narratives for internal and external stakeholders.

2. Enterprise Narrative & Corporate External PR

  • Own, govern, and continuously embed the Cogeco Masterbrand narrative across corporate channels with deep links into our financial communications, investor relations touchpoints, and public affairs.
  • Direct corporate PR, public affairs, and media relations across North America, shaping the company’s position in regulatory contexts, government relations, public policy, and investor relations with high-impact, credible perspectives.
  • Serve as an executive spokesperson and partner with external firms and PR agencies to drum up high-value visibility opportunities and maximize market influence.
  • Protect and elevate company reputation, ensuring proactive media outreach and message pull-through that reinforces our challenger positioning.

3. Internal Communications & Frontline Belonging

  • Architect a modern omnichannel internal communication strategy that cuts through noise and reaches every employee—from corporate offices to our customer facing frontline teams.
  • Elevate frontline belonging by creating direct, frictionless feedback loops and bottom-up storytelling mechanisms that connect daily operations to enterprise value creation.
  • Lead executive town halls, all-hands events, and enterprise change campaigns with high energy, clarity, and measurable employee engagement.

4. Crisis Communications & Issues Management

  • Govern and continuously operationalize the enterprise Crisis Communications Playbook.
  • Direct real-time crisis responses, ensuring rapid deployment of targeted strategies that address the in the moment and ongoing communications needs of key stakeholders while protecting the company’s long term reputation.
  • Partner with the cross-functional Crisis Management Team to run regular tabletop simulations to ensure crisis readiness across network, cyber, regulatory, and public incidents.

5. Operations & Center of Excellence (CoE) Leadership

  • Coach, empower, and develop a high-performing team of seven communication specialists, fostering autonomous decision-making and business acumen.
  • Modernize and lead the Communications Center of Excellence, embedding AI-driven workflows and automation tools to streamline drafting cycles, enforce brand consistency, and optimize production efficiency.
  • Establish data dashboards to measure narrative adoption, sentiment, and communication impact, systematically sunsetting low-value activities.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience: 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in corporate communications, public relations, or strategic internal communications, ideally within telecommunications, technology, or fast-paced consumer services. Experience in a publicly traded company, regulated communications exposure, or capital markets familiarity are an asset.
  • Executive Presence: Proven track record of counseling C-suite executives, navigating sensitive business trade-offs, and maintaining composure under high-pressure crisis situations.
  • Strategic Agility: Ability to balance high-level strategy with operational rigor, leveraging modern communication tech stacks, custom AI workflows, and analytics.
  • People Leadership: High emotional intelligence with a coaching mindset that empowers team autonomy and cross-functional alignment.
  • Bilingualism: Fluency in French and English (written and spoken) is required for seamless leadership across North American operations (Canada and the United States).
