Job description

Come make your difference in communities across Canada, where authenticity, trust and making connections is valued – as we shape the future of Canadian retail, together. Our unique position as one of the country's largest employers, coupled with our commitment to positively impact the lives of all Canadians, provides our colleagues a range of opportunities and experiences to help Canadians Live Life Well®.

At Loblaw Companies Limited, we succeed through collaboration and commitment and set a high bar for ourselves and those around us. Whether you are just starting your career, re-entering the workforce, or looking for a new job, this is where you belong.

As the Senior Director, Sourcing Strategy & Value Delivery, you will lead a high-performing team responsible for defining and driving the strategic agenda of Loblaw's Sourcing organization, translating enterprise priorities into measurable business outcomes. Reporting to the SVP, Enterprise Sourcing, you will serve as a key strategic partner and extension of the SVP's leadership, working closely with the Chief Sourcing Officer and Sourcing Leadership to shape critical business decisions, establish priorities, and drive transformational change across the organization.

At the heart of this mandate is the Sourcing Centre of Excellence, responsible for accelerating strategic initiatives, driving enterprise value delivery, and evolving Sourcing capabilities and ways of working. You will lead the strategic planning process, oversee the portfolio of highest-priority enterprise programs, and establish the governance and operating rhythm required to drive accountability, navigate complex trade-offs, and deliver against financial and operational objectives.

Beyond setting direction, you will be expected to exercise independent judgment, represent Enterprise Sourcing in senior leadership forums, and drive alignment and action across a complex, matrixed organization. Combining strategic vision, commercial acumen, and disciplined execution, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening Sourcing's enterprise impact and advancing our ambition to be the World's Best Buyers.

Core Responsibilities

Executive Leadership & Strategic Partnership

  • Serve as a strategic extension of the SVP, Enterprise Sourcing, representing the function in senior leadership discussions and cross-functional forums, and advancing priorities independently within delegated authority.
  • Act as a trusted thought partner to the Chief Sourcing Officer and Sourcing Leadership, bringing independent perspectives, sound commercial judgment, and constructive challenge to complex strategic and operational decisions.
  • Anticipate emerging enterprise priorities, risks, and opportunities, proactively shaping the leadership agenda and recommending actions to strengthen organizational performance.
  • Drive alignment and decision-making across senior stakeholders, navigating competing priorities and complex trade-offs to advance enterprise objectives.
  • Exercise strong judgment in determining which matters require executive escalation, while independently resolving issues and driving progress wherever appropriate.

Strategic Planning

  • Lead the development and execution of Sourcing's annual and multi-year strategic agenda, translating Enterprise objectives into clear priorities, actionable plans, and measurable outcomes.
  • Drive the annual strategic planning process, partnering with Sourcing Leadership to identify the highest-impact opportunities, evaluate strategic choices, and align resources and investments against Enterprise priorities.
  • Own the development of executive-level strategic narratives and communications, including Board materials, annual planning, Management Board presentations, and Quarterly Business Reviews, ensuring a clear and compelling articulation of Sourcing's priorities, performance, and value.
  • Proactively identify emerging business challenges, market dynamics, and opportunities, leading strategic problem-solving and cross-functional initiatives to strengthen competitive advantage.

Enterprise Value Delivery

  • Establish and lead the enterprise Sourcing value delivery framework, ensuring clear financial and operational targets, accountable owners, milestones, and performance measures across initiatives
  • Drive rigorous performance management across the portfolio of priority enterprise programs, challenging assumptions, identifying delivery gaps, and ensuring timely corrective action.
  • Hold program and functional leaders accountable for commitments, facilitating difficult conversations and resolving cross-functional barriers to protect enterprise outcomes.
  • Partner with Finance and functional leaders to validate financial impacts, assess risks and opportunities, and maintain a credible forward-looking view of value delivery.
  • Proactively identify emerging performance risks and opportunities, mobilizing recovery plans and escalating material issues with clear recommendations and decision options.
  • Translate enterprise ambitions into executable plans, ensuring strategic initiatives deliver sustainable business outcomes rather than simply achieving project milestones.

Operating Rhythm & Governance

  • Lead Sourcing’s run-the-business and transform-the-business forums, including period reviews and steering committees.
  • Establish decision rights, performance reviews, milestones and escalation mechanisms that create executive visibility and clear accountability for delivery.
  • Continuously improve processes and operating practices to accelerate action and accountability.

AI Adoption & Ways of Working

  • Partner with the Senior Director, Sourcing Analytics, who owns the AI capability roadmap, to prioritize business transformation outcomes.
  • Lead operating-model, process, role and ways-of-working changes required to embed new analytical and AI capabilities.
  • Lead change management and adoption governance, partnering with Analytics to track capability uptake and validate realized business value.

Team Development

  • Build and mentor a strong strategy and program delivery team with a culture of ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, merchandising, corporate strategy or management consulting, including significant leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a trusted partner to executive leadership, independently navigate complex and ambiguous situations, exercise sound judgment and commercial acumen, and represent senior leaders in high-stakes discussions.
  • Proven ability to drive outcomes across a highly matrixed organization, influence senior stakeholders without direct authority, challenge constructively, and build alignment around difficult decisions.
  • Track record of translating strategic priorities into measurable financial and operational outcomes, including managing delivery risks, resolving barriers, and driving accountability across multiple business functions.
  • Strong executive communication, including developing compelling executive narratives, leading senior-level discussions, and communicate recommendations to the Chief Sourcing Officer and other executive stakeholders.
  • Ability to move seamlessly between enterprise-level strategic thinking and detailed execution, identifying the critical issues that require leadership attention while maintaining momentum across a broad portfolio of priorities.
  • Strong analytical fluency, comfort with AI-enabled work and experience improving business processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering or related field; MBA an asset.
