About Velora:

Our product websites:

We’re excited to share that Aplos, Raisely, and Keela have come together to form one unified company, Velora, with a shared mission: to help nonprofit organizations thrive. While we continue to offer the products you know and love, we now operate as one team, dedicated to making nonprofit work easier, more impactful, and more sustainable.

Together, our combined expertise spans fundraising, donor management, financial tracking, and communications—offering a powerful suite of tools designed to reduce complexity so nonprofits can focus on what matters most: making a difference.

We’re one company with 3 products all servicing customers in the impact space. Working at Velora means that you have the opportunity to build one or across all our products.

We have a combination of merged teams and also teams dedicated to one specific product and you can find details about the work through our job descriptions under the “about the role” section.

About the role

We’re hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build Velora’s AI-native software platform, giving nonprofit teams more time for their mission and less time spent on administration. Your initial focus will be the CRM, data and integrations that support donor management, communications, automation and reporting, helping evolve an established product as Velora’s platform grows.

This is a senior, full-stack role with ownership from a Product prototype through technical design, implementation, release and verification in production. You’ll create clarity in ambiguous problems, make pragmatic architectural decisions and partner closely with Product and engineering colleagues.

AI is central to how we work. You’ll direct coding agents, apply your own engineering judgment and stay accountable for what ships. You’ll also raise the team’s capability through rigorous code review, mentoring and reusable engineering practices.

What will you be doing?

  • Own high-impact projects end to end, from a Product prototype through solution design, build, release and post-release stability.
  • Partner with Product to clarify customer outcomes, break work into useful increments and raise scope-versus-date tradeoffs early.
  • Work across frontend, backend, infrastructure and data to deliver complete features rather than a single layer.
  • Design secure APIs and data models, protect sensitive donor information and coach teammates on secure engineering practices.
  • Run an AI-native Plan → Implement → Verify workflow: direct coding agents, critically review their output and remain accountable for every change.
  • Own quality and release readiness through unit, integration and end-to-end tests, failure-case validation and production verification; monitor and troubleshoot what you ship.
  • Shape technical direction through designs that weigh options, balance business needs with future scale and evolve mature application logic into newer services where appropriate.
  • Improve team outcomes through prompt, rigorous code reviews, mentoring, knowledge sharing and reusable patterns and agent workflows.

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years as a software engineer, including 2+ at senior level; SaaS product experience preferred.
  • Experience leading complex full-stack projects independently, from design through production, and breaking work into manageable pieces.
  • Strong web fundamentals, including state management, authentication, authorization, secure APIs and data modelling.
  • A solid understanding of system architecture and databases, with a practical approach to reliability, security and scale.
  • Daily use of AI coding agents, paired with the judgment to guide their work, review the output and catch mistakes.
  • Ownership of software quality, from automated testing and release readiness through production performance.
  • Clear communication and close collaboration with Product and engineering, including constructive feedback and thoughtful technical tradeoffs.
  • A commitment to helping other engineers grow through mentoring, code review and knowledge sharing.

Technical experience

  • Familiarity with some of the following is helpful; we don’t expect all of it:
    • TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js, React, Next.js or Vue or similar frameworks; Python is a plus.
    • PostgreSQL/MongoDB, schema design and migrations, and event-driven systems such as Kafka or change data capture.
    • Cloud infrastructure, containers and serverless platforms (e.g. Kubernetes, Vercel), plus feature flags and observability.
    • AI coding agents (e.g. Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot) and reusable agent workflows.
    • Designing data and AI-powered features: metrics or semantic layers, analytics data modelling, and LLM-driven flows that stay correct and trustworthy.
    • Nonprofit, CRM or fundraising experience is a plus. We’ll help you learn our codebases and company-specific tools.

What we value

  • Autonomously outcome-focused: you act like an owner and own results, not just tasks.
  • Relentlessly curious: you question assumptions and keep looking for better ways to work.
  • AI-native: you turn to AI first while applying the judgment needed to verify what it produces.

Why work with us?

If you need more convincing, here’s the rest of it:

  • 💵 Salary – Compensation band $160K - $180K CAD. Your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, experience, and geographic location.
  • 🏝️ Paid Time Off – Canada: Everyone gets 4 weeks paid leave plus 11 days of public holidays, as well as an ‘end of year shutdown’ which is an extra 2 week company holiday. Plus, you are entitled to generous paid sick leave.
  • 🌴 Work remotely – We’re a remote-first company - live and work wherever you’re happiest (within approved hire locations).
  • 🤷 Training – We’ll support you when you want to learn new skills or pay for conference or course tickets.
  • ❤️ Health Coverage & Retirement – Canada & US: We offer robust medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance coverages and have a 4% match on Retirement.

If you have any questions or require accommodations in the interview process, please reach out to [email protected].
