The role requires strong practical knowledge of structural steel and reinforced concrete design and detailing, 3D modelling, drawing production, and constructability. The Senior Structural Designer will also support design reviews, provide guidance to intermediate and junior designers, and contribute to the consistent application of project standards and design practices.

Responsibilities

Structural Design and Project Execution

  • Develop and coordinate structural design deliverables for industrial projects, including:
    • Structural general arrangements and layouts.
    • Structural steel and reinforced concrete drawings.
    • Foundations and equipment support structures.
    • Pipe racks and miscellaneous support structures.
    • Access platforms, stairs, ladders, handrails, and secondary steel.
    • Modular structures and transportation or lifting arrangements.
  • Prepare and develop structural 3D models and associated design drawings.
  • Translate engineering design information, calculations, sketches, vendor data, and project requirements into accurate and constructible design deliverables.
  • Apply project specifications, client standards, discipline procedures, and established design practices.
  • Identify and resolve design issues related to constructability, access, maintainability, fabrication, modularization, transportation, lifting, and erection.
  • Support projects through all phases of design, from studies and conceptual layouts through detailed design and construction support.
  • Assist with material quantity estimates and design input required for project planning and estimating.

Design Coordination and Constructability

  • Coordinate structural designs with civil, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, and architectural disciplines.
  • Participate in 3D model reviews, interdisciplinary checks, constructability reviews, and design coordination meetings.
  • Identify and communicate design conflicts, missing information, and potential risks that could affect quality, cost, or schedule.
  • Work with engineers to confirm design intent, loading requirements, structural arrangements, and detailing requirements.
  • Support coordination with construction, fabrication, procurement, vendors, and commissioning teams as required.
  • Incorporate review comments and ensure design changes are accurately reflected in models and drawings.

Quality and Technical Compliance

  • Ensure structural design deliverables comply with applicable project requirements, specifications, codes, standards, and client practices.
  • Perform design checks and reviews of structural drawings and 3D models prepared by other designers.
  • Maintain consistency and quality across drawings, models, and related design documentation.
  • Follow established checking, approval, document control, and quality assurance processes.
  • Support the development and improvement of structural design procedures, templates, workflows, and technical guidelines.
  • Promote consistent use of design tools, modelling standards, drawing practices, and project data requirements.

Team Support and Mentoring

  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance to intermediate and junior structural designers.
  • Support the development of less-experienced team members through coaching, design reviews, and knowledge sharing.
  • Work collaboratively with structural engineers, discipline leads, and project leadership.
  • Assist Lead and Principal Structural Designers with work planning, design coordination, checking, and delivery of project requirements.
  • Contribute to lessons learned, continuous improvement, and discipline capability-development initiatives.
  • Promote safety in design, including safe access, working at height, lifting, construction sequencing, fabrication, and erection considerations.

What You Will Bring

Technical and Industry Experience

  • Significant progressive experience in structural design within an engineering, EPC/EPCM, fabrication, or industrial project environment.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering structural design work on multidisciplinary industrial projects.
  • Strong experience in structural steel and reinforced concrete design and detailing.
  • Practical experience with foundations, equipment supports, pipe racks, access structures, platforms, stairs, handrails, and secondary steel.
  • Experience in sectors such as oil and gas, chemicals, mining, power, or infrastructure is preferred.
  • Experience supporting modularization, fabrication, construction, and field execution is an asset.

Technical Skills
