OUR VALUES
- Integrity: We do the right thing, even when it’s hard.
- Teamwork: We are one team, on a big mission.
- Innovation: We value creative solutions for emerging opportunities.
- Accountability: We honour our commitments.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Senior Systems Test Engineer (Embedded & Mobile), you will join a tight-knit engineering team and own quality across the way iGUIDE captures data: the camera, the PLANIX Mobile App, and how the two work together. You will test new camera releases on real hardware, check that the app behaves the way it should in the conditions our users work in, and build automated testing that keeps known problems from coming back.
You’ll work closely with teams across the organization, including firmware, mobile, cloud, Product Management, and UX, to raise the quality bar across the hardware-software boundary
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the test plan for our camera software: what gets tested before a release ships, and what has to pass for it to go out.
- Test the cameras on real hardware: measurement accuracy, battery and power behaviour, connectivity, and how the device recovers when something is interrupted.
- Set up test equipment so routine checks run automatically instead of by hand.
- Test the PLANIX Mobile App against real cameras across the whole capture workflow: connecting, scanning, saving, transferring, and exporting.
- Find the problems that only appear where the camera, the app, and the phone meet, the ones that are easiest to miss and hardest to diagnose.
- Build automated tests into our release process so a problem we have already fixed cannot ship again.
- Investigate crashes and customer-reported issues, reproduce them on real hardware, and close each one out with a test that prevents a repeat.
- Review test coverage with the team and help catch problems earlier, during development rather than after.
QUALIFICATIONS
Technical
- 5+ years in Test engineering, including meaningful time spent on products that combine hardware and software.
- Hands-on experience testing physical devices, including using lab equipment to work out why something failed, not only testing software that talks to hardware.
- Strong programming fundamentals in at least one language: JavaScript/TypeScript, C++, Python, or another. We care about depth in something, not a specific stack.
- Experience building automated tests and making them a standing part of a team’s release process.
- Experience testing mobile apps on real iOS and Android devices.
- Able to read the code under test well enough to work through root cause alongside developers.
- A structured, methodical approach to finding the ways a product can break.
- Bonus: experience with cameras, sensors, lidar, or other measurement hardware.
AI-Enabled Development
- Proficient with AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) for writing documents, tests, debugging, and code review.
- Experience orchestrating AI agents to automate multi-step engineering workflows, with sound judgment on when to verify or override output.
- Comfortable integrating AI tooling (prompts, skills, MCP servers) with internal build, CI, and device-debug systems.
Collaboration & Communication
- Experience partnering with developers to find root cause, rather than handing off a failure report and moving on.
- Ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts, especially those that span embedded and mobile domains, to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience collaborating with Product and UX to define testable requirements early, from ideation to launch to subsequent
- Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment where hardware and software evolve together.
Our Tech Stack
- Cameras: iGUIDE PLANIX Pro and R1, running embedded Linux
- Mobile app: React Native for iOS and Android, with part of the capture experience built as a web view inside the app
- Camera SDK: a shared C++ library that connects the app to the camera
- Languages: C++, TypeScript/JavaScript, Kotlin, Swift, Python
- Cloud and delivery: AWS, TestFlight, App Store, Google Play
- Monitoring: Sentry, Firebase, Heap
