At KCB, our team collaborates across regions and disciplines to bring practical thinking, technical excellence, and diverse perspectives to every project.
We are problem-solvers at heart. Our teams bring passion to complex challenges, integrity to every client relationship and excellence to the solutions we deliver for communities, industries, and future generations.
Guided by our long-term ambition of Globally Connected Excellence and our purpose of Sustaining the Future, we work alongside our clients to deliver lasting solutions that strengthen resilience and benefit future generations.
The Opportunity:
We are looking for a Senior Water Resources Engineer to join our Vancouver-based engineering team to work on local and international mining and resource projects. Your experience will be applied to the planning, investigation, assessment, design, and construction of tailings and water dams and waste storage for mining. Career development can be managed to support personal preferences such as niche, technical design specialists, or project participation in both technical dam engineering scopes and project management, or all-round engineering specialists.
Our focus is on the application of critical thinking to the management of mine waste and water. By continuing your career journey with us, you would be part of our Mining Environmental Group, based out our Vancouver office. The role of Senior Water Resources Engineer will provide you with the opportunity to:
Engage with clients, colleagues, and suppliers on environmentally focused field programs and design solutions
Conduct hydrological and hydraulic analysis including flood mapping, water balance analysis, and hydraulic modelling
Incorporate climate change resiliency in hydrological and hydraulic analysis
Support mine water management design and optimization
Build client rapport as projects progress from feasibility through to mine closure
Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to integrate water management systems into overall design and operation
Prepare technical reports, proposals, and other documentation related to water resources engineering
What We Require
We respect the knowledge and experience you have gained to date and are willing to support you as you build on it. We do however require:
A degree in civil engineering: a master’s degree is considered an asset
15+ years’ civil design experience related to surface water controls (preferably for mining or related industries), with a track record of continued development
You must be eligible to register as professional engineer in Canada
Experience in hydrotechnical designs analyses (e.g., water balance, open channel flow, erosion protection)
An ability to build relationships with multidisciplinary project-based teams
Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, high degree of organization, and work independently with minimal supervision in a deadline-driven environment.
Effective written and verbal communication along with organization and analytical skills.
Experience in a safety focused environment with near miss and incident reporting requirements
You will excel in our team if you have:
An ability to find creative solutions and know how to present them.
A willingness to mentor others and be mentored.
An ability to build rapport with clients, colleagues, and industry partners.
Demonstrate that you are flexible and seek solutions rather than focus on problems.
A willingness to travel and undertake fieldwork.
A proven ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
The expected salary range for this position is $125,000 to $180,000 per year. Compensation above this range may be considered for candidates with significant experience or specialized expertise. The actual salary offered is based on an individual assessment of applicable experience, education, and skill level.
Along with continued career development, KCB offers:
Hybrid work opportunities
Annual performance and salary review
PSMJ’s supported track record of profitability, leading to above average bonus payouts
Vacation policy that aligns to your experience
Paid OT, and wellness days
Flexible benefits, including RSP, social, and mental well-being initiatives
