The Opportunity
We are seeking a Software Engineer I to join our Portfolio Intelligence team. This is an opportunity to launch your career in cloud-native engineering and agentic systems, working alongside experienced engineers and data scientists who will mentor you as you build your skills. You will contribute to building the Insight Engine, a system that runs insights which use a combination of data science and LLMs.
In this role, you will
Learn and Contribute
Work on well-defined tasks that build your foundational skills in cloud engineering and agentic systems, using C# on AWS. Contribute to components of the Insight Engine, including the services that run insights and the systems that evaluate them, working alongside data scientists to bring their work to production. Implement features and fixes under the guidance of senior engineers, learning to write clean, testable code that meets team standards. As you grow, you’ll take on increasingly complex work with greater independence.
Build Technical Foundations
Develop proficiency in our stack, including .NET Orleans, AWS Bedrock, PostgreSQL, and Snowflake, along with GenAI-powered development tools and workflows. Learn how highly available, scalable cloud services are designed, and how to tackle challenges like non-deterministic LLM output, eval quality, latency, and governance. Senior engineers will provide mentorship and code review to accelerate your growth.
Collaborate and Communicate
Work closely with senior engineers, product managers, and data scientists, asking questions and seeking feedback to accelerate your learning. Participate in team meetings, code reviews, and technical discussions. Communicate clearly about your progress, blockers, and what you're learning.
Develop Production Awareness
Learn our "You Build It, You Run It" culture by participating in on-call rotations with support from experienced team members. Develop an understanding of how production systems operate, how incidents are handled, and how monitoring and alerting help maintain platform reliability.
Who We Are Looking For
You are early in your career and eager to grow as an engineer. You have foundational programming skills and a curiosity about how cloud systems and LLM-powered products work. You learn quickly, ask good questions, and take feedback well.
You don’t need to have all the answers, just the motivation to find them. You’re looking for an environment where you can learn from experienced engineers, contribute meaningfully from day one, and build toward a long-term career.
What You'll Do
Required Qualifications
- 1-2 years of professional software development experience, or a recent graduate with relevant internship or co-op experience.
- Proficiency in C# or a similar object-oriented language (such as Java).
- Basic understanding of SQL and relational databases.
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS preferred) through coursework, personal projects, or prior experience.
- Exposure to working with LLMs in agentic development (for example, building agents or using agentic coding tools like Claude Code), through work, coursework, or personal projects.
- Familiarity with version control (Git) and basic software development practices, including code review and automated testing.
- Foundational knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and learn production operations practices.
What You'll Bring
These skills are not required on day one, but they are highly valued:
- Experience calling LLM APIs, prompt design, or writing evals.
- Experience with Python and the .NET Orleans framework.
- Familiarity with REST APIs, and with CI/CD, Docker, and containerization concepts.
- Interest in Generative AI and experience using AI-powered coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) for learning and productivity.
- Expected Salary: 75,000 -100,000 CAD
