Based in Western Canada for over 110 years, McElhanney offers innovative and practical engineering, surveying, mapping, planning, landscape architecture, and environmental services. As a 100% employee-owned and operated firm, with over 1,500 staff members in 31 locations, we are proud to offer qualified staff with shareholding options in our company. At McElhanney, we work in teams to build strong connections with our staff, clients, and local communities. Our employees enjoy working here because of our varied projects, high levels of autonomy, opportunities for career development, excellent total compensation and benefits package, and collaborating with a team of great professionals.

The Opportunity

McElhanney is seeking a Junior Survey Project Manager to join our Edmonton team, leading survey projects supporting industrial facilities, energy infrastructure, and construction. From facility development and equipment layout to pipelines, wellsites, and associated infrastructure, you’ll help clients deliver projects through accurate survey data and reliable technical solutions.

You’ll oversee projects from proposals and planning through field execution and final deliverables, working closely with clients, survey crews, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, high-quality work within budget and schedule. This is an opportunity to take ownership of project delivery, build strong client relationships, and grow your leadership capabilities within a collaborative, 100% employee-owned firm.

While this position is based in Edmonton, Alberta, we welcome applications from candidates across Canada who are open to relocating. Relocation support will be available, as applicable.

Projects You’ll Support

From industrial facilities and energy infrastructure to complex construction assignments, you’ll help deliver the survey data and technical services that keep projects moving. Depending on project requirements, your work may include:

  • Industrial and energy projects: Survey support for facility development, wellsites, pipelines, and associated infrastructure.

  • Engineering and construction surveys: Construction layout, alignment, elevation control, and as-built surveys to support project execution.

  • Infrastructure projects: Survey services for access roads, transportation corridors, site grading, and other infrastructure works.

  • Legal and regulatory surveys: Survey assignments requiring careful attention to boundaries, applicable requirements, accuracy, and documentation.

You’ll coordinate with clients, field crews, and technical specialists to translate project requirements into safe, efficient fieldwork and dependable deliverables.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Liaising with both internal (McElhanney) and external Project Managers and clients. Support from Senior PMs and the Division Manager will be available to help you grow.

  • Managing survey projects for industrial facilities and energy infrastructure, including facility development, equipment and foundation layout, pipeline infrastructure, construction, as-built, topographic, and legal/regulatory surveys.

  • Establishing project scope, budget, schedule, and other project or client expectations.

  • Preparing proposals, technical reports, and documents.

  • Leading survey crews on projects and communicating scope and scheduling information to crew members.

  • Managing project budgets and financial reporting.

  • Managing information flow from fieldwork to final deliverables.

  • Ensuring quality assurance procedures are carried out for proposals, field returns, drawings, plans, documents, and other deliverables.

  • Travelling from time to time for occasional site meetings.

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree or technical diploma in Geomatics with at least 5 years of progressive experience; experience in engineering, construction, or legal surveys is a strong asset.

  • Experience with Trimble Business Center and/or Civil 3D is an asset, but training is also available.

  • A safety- and quality-conscious mindset.

  • Knowledge of survey calculations, geodetic coordinate systems, and map projections.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and motivational skills.

  • Results-oriented approach with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and timelines.

  • Valid driver’s licence.

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $100,000-$120,000 per year. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting.
