Job description

Position: Technology Governance & Risk Advisor
Location: Downtown Toronto, ON
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week (mandatory)
Salary: Up to $130K base
Posting Type: Open vacancyPerks: Bonus: up to 15%, health/dental benefits – effective immediately, Defined-benefit Pension (OPB): contributions matched by organization

Are you a technology risk and governance professional who can do more than manage audit requests and track controls? Do you have the technical breadth, strategic judgment and confidence to challenge technology leaders and influence better decisions?

We are looking for a Technology Governance & Risk Advisor to establish and drive a centralized technology governance function within a complex enterprise environment.

This is an opportunity to take ownership, bring consistency to technology risk and audit practices, and help shape how an organization identifies, assesses and manages technology risk. You will work closely with senior technology leadership, acting as a trusted advisor rather than simply coordinating governance activities.

What you'll be doing:

Technology Risk & Governance
- Establish and drive a consistent technology governance and risk management approach across multiple IT teams.
- Proactively assess risks associated with new technology implementations, platforms, applications and third-party solutions.
- Advise technology leaders on appropriate controls, mitigation strategies, risk acceptance and residual exposure.
- Build, maintain and evolve the technology risk register, identifying systemic risks and prioritizing issues based on business impact.
- Integrate technology risk assessments into technology review and approval processes.
- Challenge existing practices, identify control weaknesses and recommend sustainable improvements.

Audit & Control Management
- Act as the primary point of contact between technology teams and internal/external audit, risk and regulatory stakeholders.
- Lead responses to audit and evidence requests, ensuring consistent, accurate and timely information across IT.
- Centralize audit documentation and establish a reusable evidence library to improve ongoing audit readiness.
- Oversee audit findings, management responses and remediation activities, focusing on root causes and sustainable control improvements.
- Establish standardized processes for audit engagement, evidence collection and control documentation.

Strategic Advisory & Reporting
- Translate complex technical risks into clear business impacts, recommendations and actionable insights for senior leadership.
- Prepare executive-level reporting on technology risk exposure, control effectiveness, audit findings and emerging issues.
- Influence governance discussions and facilitate decisions involving competing risk, operational and business priorities.
- Align technology risk practices with broader enterprise risk management frameworks.
- Establish meaningful risk metrics and reporting mechanisms to support informed leadership decisions.

What we're looking for:

- 7+ years of progressive experience in technology governance, IT risk management, technology controls, audit or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience independently owning technology risk and governance outcomes, not just coordinating audit activities or tracking remediation.
- Strong experience developing and maintaining risk registers, conducting risk assessments, prioritizing risks and recommending mitigating controls.
- Proven experience managing technology audits, audit findings, evidence requests and control improvement initiatives.
- Broad understanding of enterprise IT environments, including infrastructure, cloud platforms, enterprise applications, cybersecurity, data, third-party services and emerging technologies.
- Ability to assess technology risks, challenge assumptions and provide practical recommendations across different technology domains.
- Experience working with senior technology stakeholders and influencing decisions without relying on formal authority.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear executive-level insights.
- Experience in a regulated, financial services, government or similarly complex enterprise environment is highly desirable.
- A bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or a related discipline.

The ideal candidate

You are a strategic thinker with enough technical depth to understand how enterprise technology environments operate and where risks can emerge.

You are comfortable challenging established practices, advising senior leaders and taking ownership of complex governance issues. You bring a calm, measured and solutions-oriented approach, particularly when managing multiple competing audit and risk priorities.

Most importantly, you know the difference between simply coordinating governance activities and actually driving better governance outcomes.

Work Arrangement

This position is based in Downtown Toronto, with 3 days onsite per week mandatory.

If you're ready to take ownership of technology governance and make a meaningful impact on how an organization manages technology risk, we'd like to hear from you.
