Job description

You know how to ask the right questions, get people talking and turn what you hear into insights that help teams make better decisions.

Smart, Savvy + Associates is pleased to partner with Technical Safety BC in their search for a User Research Analyst.

In this newly created role, you’ll lead client research and discovery for one of Technical Safety BC’s largest business transformation initiatives. You’ll recruit clients to participate in research, lead focus groups and one-on-one conversations, analyze what you learn and bring those insights back to the teams designing and rolling out changes.

This is a hands-on research role. You’ll be embedded within the project team and trusted to run discovery independently, from determining who you need to hear from and how to reach them to asking the right questions, recognizing patterns and determining when you have enough information to make a recommendation.

The work will help Technical Safety BC understand how changes are landing with clients, what’s working, where there’s friction and what may need to change before moving forward.

What You’ll Do

Lead client research and discovery

  • Recruit clients for research, developing screeners, outreach approaches and a reliable pipeline of participants.
  • Plan and lead focus groups, one-on-one interviews and other discovery activities.
  • Ask thoughtful, sometimes challenging questions that get beyond surface-level feedback.
  • Build relationships with clients across a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and levels of engagement.

Turn research into useful insight

  • Analyze qualitative research to identify patterns, themes and emerging client needs.
  • Design research that helps teams understand whether a change is working, should move forward or needs to be adjusted.
  • Bring qualitative and quantitative information together to build a clearer picture of the client experience.
  • Synthesize findings into practical insights that project teams and senior leaders can use to make decisions.

Bring the client voice into a major transformation

  • Work day to day with a cross-functional project team that includes IT, product, change and other specialists.
  • Conduct continuous discovery as new client-facing changes are developed and introduced.
  • Help teams define the questions they need research to answer and determine the best way to find those answers.
  • Share findings across the organization and help stakeholders understand what the research means for their work. User Research Analyst profile

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience conducting user, client, market or applied research.
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting research participants, including developing screeners, conducting outreach and building participant pipelines.
  • Strong facilitation skills and confidence independently leading focus groups and one-on-one interviews.
  • Strong qualitative research and analysis skills, including the ability to recognize patterns, synthesize findings and know when you’ve reached saturation.
  • Experience designing research questions and approaches that help measure the success or impact of a change.
  • The ability to translate research findings into clear, useful insights for different audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and confidence working directly with clients and stakeholders.
  • A self-directed approach. You’re comfortable joining a complex project, asking questions and figuring out what you need to know.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage changing priorities and deadlines.

Nice to Have

  • Experience presenting research findings to senior leaders.
  • Experience supporting a large-scale digital or business transformation.
  • Business analysis, IT or product experience.
  • Experience with human-centred design.
  • Experience with survey design and quantitative research.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Qualtrics, Qlik, Microsoft Dynamics or Jira.
